The preliminary rule from the Food and Drug Administration marks the first time tobacco makers will be required to report quantities of 20 ingredients associated with cancer, lung disease and other health problems. The FDA will require companies to display the information in consumer-friendly packaging by next April.
Regulators have identified more than 93 harmful or potentially harmful chemicals in tobacco products, though the agency is only focusing on 20 for now.
A law enacted in 2009 gave the FDA authority to regulate a number of aspects of tobacco marketing and manufacturing, though the agency cannot ban nicotine.
It is bad enough that smokers hurt themselves when they smoke but they also hurt their children, families, and innocnet people who happen to be standing around them when they smoke. It is about time the frum community take a strong stand against smoking. Smoking kills and hurts people it is not a game. I often tell smokers you are not welcome around me and I yell at smokers in the street when I see them smoking in the face of their young infants. This plain murder. Then the smokers on this blog will then defend smoking as they often do and say there are other pollutants that are harmful as well. Those pollutants are hard to control but smoking can be controlled and must be stopped. Good Shabboss.
“I yell at smokers in the street”
Yet another meshuganeh wandering uncontrolled.
