Brooklyn, NY – A little-known philanthropist who is passionate about competitive indoor cycling pledged on Thursday the largest single gift in the history of New York City’s parks system: $40 million for a new field house in Brooklyn Bridge Park.

The donation comes from Joshua P. Rechnitz, a resident of the Upper West Side who had tried unsuccessfully in the past to create indoor sites for track cycling in the city. His grandparents Robert and Harriet Heilbrunn had been prominent philanthropists, making large gifts to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Natural History, Rockefeller University, Central Park and other institutions.
The pledge seemed to take city officials by surprise.
a waste of yiddish gelt,, NEBECH
I wonder who will be the first tzadik basher to condemn Mr Rechnitz, and his handsome and generous donation, and to whine that the money should have gone to yeshivot?
Why is supporting cycling tzedaka? It is actually assur to cycle in Brooklyn because you are unnecessarily putting yourself b’makom sakana. I hope they don’e award a tax break to this M’sayea LeD’var Aveira
Yes, it’s his money and he can do as he pleases with it. However, imagine for a moment, if you will, the Gan Eden and Olam Haboh he could he could have attained for himself had he accomplished distributing this money amongst his needy brethren .
to # 1 your wish didnt need to long to come true! lol
Ben Porat Yosef!
You commenters are so gullible. #3 was joking and everyone comes out so passionately. It would be funny if it weren’t so pathetic.
Heh. I hope he hires the workers and pays them all by himself, because then his money will be well spent and used for the intended purpose. Otherwise, the money will be spent on bloated union city workers, who’ll manage to blow the 40 million in no time with nothing to show for it.
to#2 the last time i was in yeshiveh more then 80% bucherim wasted their time.
So donating to yeshiveh would mean 32 million wasted.
Now we gona have one more thing to enjoy chol hamoeid.
Just want to point out that half of Williamsburg was in Brooklyn Bridge Park on C”HM, and had rented literally every available bicycle. Big mitzva!
