The Simon Wiesenthal Center says it was inappropriate for Raese to equate anti-smoking laws with the yellow star that Jews were forced to wear during the Holocaust.

A video of an April 12 appearance posted on Youtube shows the Morgantown Republican criticizing his home county’s indoor smoking ban. He said requiring stickers on buildings declaring them smoke-free is like how “Hitler used to put a Star of David on everybody’s lapel.”

The Wisenthal Center on Thursday said the remark betrays an ignorance of the horrors inflicted by the Nazis and demonstrates callousness to the millions of Jews they murdered.

The Morgantown Republican said he does not care about the reaction by the Simon Wiesenthal Center, and defended his statement as “reciting history.” The state Democratic Party’s chairman also criticized the comment.

What can one expect from a true ignoramus, who has not had any contact with Jews, and comes from an area, which is basically judenrein? There are just certain individuals who can’t be educated, as to basic history.

#3: He has never been a senator, having lost the race three times. Apparently, he has never won an election of any sort. But you’re right about owning a house in Palm Beach. His wife is (or was) registered to vote in Florida, so she couldn’t vote for her husband last time he ran.

They are not a Jewish organization. They are first and foremost a liberal political organization that happens to be run by Jews. I bet you a million bucks those who made the decision to condemn those words voted for Obama.

To #5 -Steve W- You are wrong; I’ve had commercial contacts with West Virginians, as I oversaw a number of retail stores in Morgantown, Beckley, Wheeling, and Parkersburg, W. Va. Secondly, I’ve driven on the West Virginia Turnpike a number of times, and I’ve always commented on how friendly the toll collectors are on that road, compared to other states. In fact, when I stopped at a gas station in Beckley, W. Va, it was the only one that I ever encountered in the entire USA, which had soap and water at the gas pump, so one could wash their hands after pumping gas! My point was that this individual’s views are not surprising, because West Virginia in general, contains very few Jews. I was not implying that the people of West Virginia are similar to this fool. The West Virginians whom I encountered, were very fine individuals,

Yes I would tend to agree that he meant no harm to the Jewishs people by his comment. It may have been a little insensitive but what I think he was refering to was the state control that the government is putting on people by trying to control every area of their lives, such as what they eat, whether they can smoke where they can smoke etc. The Nazi regime was a totalitarian regime which also did the same type of things to people, all people. However the way they treated the Jews was completely off the scale of cruelty and doesn’t fit into the equation. So yes, I believe what he says in regards to people in generan who lived under the Nazi and the way our government is becoming more and more controling, but I disagree with his analysis of the yellow star and don’t see how that connects with the idea.

It serves absolutely no purpose to jump on every person that says the word Holocaust or Hitler in a context not to our liking.
All it does is cause resentment and looks silly.
