An Emergency Service Unit officer carries a chains saw into the basement of a building on the corner of Wooster Street and Prince Street in New York on Saturday, April 21, 2012 during a renewed investigation into the 1979 disappearance of 6-year-old Etan Patz. Patz vanished after leaving his family’s home for a short walk to his school bus stop. NYPD spokesperson Paul Browne says the building being searched for his remains is about a block from where the family lived. (AP Photo/Mary Altaffer) Manhattan, NY – The FBI and NYPD are tight-lipped on anything they may have found in the SoHo building suspected of hiding the remains of Etan Patz.

But there are reports this morning that there could be a new clue.

On Saturday, investigators discovered what they described as a suspicious stain on a concrete wall while tearing apart the basement, according to CNN. They discovered the stain by spraying Luminol, a chemical which can indicate the presence of blood, but that is not always conclusive.

Can someone explain why they woke up now, 40 yrs later? Like where they were until now?
I’m wondering if something came up now that they decided to renew their search?

According to news reports the ex-wife of the handyman who is being investigated came forward last week and said that he had molested his ten year old niece. The day before the kidnapping this handyman had paid Etan $1 for his “help”, so he knew the child. Also, in the original investigation the police saw freshly poured concrete in the basement, but decided not to rip it up because they would have had to pay for the repair.

A guy in the neighborhood cements his basement a few weeks after Etan disappears, and the police don’t suspect a body there?
I’ve seen dozens of movies with this plot – don’t the cops ever go to a movie?
30 years later one of them took out a DVD with that plot – how else explain 30 years of inaction????
