Brooklyn, NY – Ulster County Executive Mike Hein has agreed to grant the permits to operate four upstate summer camps to Zalman Teitelbaum over his older brother, Aaron, Lopez just told me.

Lopez was backing Zalman Teitelbaum, who was selected by his late father, the Grand Rebbe Moses Teitelbaum, to lead the Satmar Hasidic sect.

“He will be getting the four camps for this summer and the 3,800 kids slated to go will now be joyous and happy because the battle is over and the conflict is over,” Lopez said.

Zalman Teitelbaum controlled the camps for years until Aaron this year sought oversight of at least half of them.

The battle not only pitted brother versus brother in the Hasidic community, but Brooklyn Dem against Brooklyn Dem.

Lopez was backed by state Sen. Martin Dilan and his son, Councilman Erik Dilan.

Velazquez was joined by Councilwoman Diane Reyna.

“I’m very happy,” Lopez said. “There was a lot of pressure on both sides. The kids will have a camp. The majority side prevailed.”

He should be happy. The Zalman Teitelbaum faction controls at least two-thirds of the vote of the community and votes as a bloc.

Below is a statement from Hein.

“I have great respect for the entire Satmar Community. Unfortunately, a deep divide exists within this sect that has been at the root of much sadness and presents many profound challenges for everyone involved. Each side has made extraordinary efforts to resolve this impasse amicably, but to no avail, and ultimately I must do everything in my power as Ulster County Executive to ensure that the government does not stand in the way of the lawful opening of these childrens’ camps.

“It is my great hope that both sides of the Satmar dispute will continue to use their collective energies to develop a lasting and long term solution for future operations of these summer camps for the good of the children and to avoid recreating this type of dilemma in the future.”

Its a shame. I hoped that no one would make it. The whole camp and country thing is a very big financial burden for an average family.

If we would stop going to the camps we would save millions and millions of dollars.

Congratulations , they deserve it, they had it all the years and if the aroinim wanted to split then its their own risk to search for different places , this was originally Satmar , and if he opened new schools, camps , etc then why beg for it now???

I’m not going to go into the satmar politics here, (as an outsider I personally think r’ aron is more fit to be satmar rabbi he’s more of a leader more torah matrieal then his younger brother) what I do want to discuss is the blatan lies written in this article zalmen was never selected to lead the satmar sect by his father if anything only willi which doesn’t entitle him to everything satmar owns, there’s millions of dollars hekdesh gelt that a lot of aronim put in and don’t want him to control everything lie #2 zaly controls 2/3 of the vote will see about that coming next election mr lopez senator squadron came in even though u didn’t like him and didn’t endorse him with ur 2/3 of the vote its just another one of the one sided fabricated fast polotic stories !! Don’t fall for them !!

Why do we still have to hear about these two brothers, who continue their Chilul Hashem in farhesia. Obviously it is all about the money, and all about beating the other brother. What lesson are we learning from the Satmar community?

Reply to # 22 deprive thousands and thousands of innocent childeren from going to camp really ?? Did zalmen and comp, think what will happend when with the thousands and thousands on innocent “SATMAR” kids that don’t want his ruling thrusted down our throats, do we have to sit back and have rachmoones now on him cause he stole in broad day light millions and millions of dollars that nelong to the people, and they deserve something for there money, so now that he’s sitting on these properties and the aronim tried to put a hand on something there “MAYBE” entiteled to and tried to get them to the table to negotiate were supposed to feel bad for the zali team, yes the aronim didn’t fold up when they got ripped off they went out struggled build up from bottom up and propered into a beautiful empire stronger and better, that doesn’t mean there not entiteled to what is debatably there’s…..

I feel sooo sorry for those kids. They will have to go back to the “camps”. I think it’s the closest thing to the “concentration camps”. Myself been sentenced to 5 years there & still have nightmares 25 years later.
