U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer says the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Canadian officials have tentatively agreed to end the two-hour inspection and screening delays at St. Lambert in Quebec.
The deal still needs final U.S. and Canadian approval. But new screening facilities in Montreal are being built for Customs and Border Patrol agents to complete prescreenings and end the need to stop at St. Lambert.
Schumer says Amtrak has agreed to no longer making the extra stop once the new facilities are approved and operating.
The North Country Chamber of Commerce says the move is a major economic step toward creating what it calls border fluidity.
they also have to improve the track from Albany north
–2 hours from Penn Station to Albany (ok);
–6 hours from Albany to the border (not ok); that’s an average of 30 mph
–1 hour at the border
–2 hours to Montreal from the border (not ok)
if they fix up the delays, it will give the Heimann bus good competition (comfort, wifi, etc)
#2 –it’s not faster to fly back, because you have to allow and extra hour to clear US customs in Montreal.
you should try stopping at exit 2W on I-87: the Price Chopper there has a fantastic kosher section 🙂
