Israel – "Yemenites walk around with a cloud of pungent odor that lets people know they're coming from five feet away. This is also true in winter," wrote the strictly Orthodox Yated Ne'eman newspaper this week. The reason cited by the paper for this "phenomenon" is the frequent use of the fenugreek spice in traditional Yemenite cuisine.

The article, penned by nutritionist Yael Kariv, focused on the recent heat wave as it related to sweat, and the connection between perspiration and diet.
Social activist Haim Ezer and spice merchant Sagiv Mahfud – both of Yemenite heritage – were angered by the article and filed a lawsuit demanding the paper publish an apology and pay them $11,500 compensation.
"The characterization of the Yemenite sector through the smell of their sweat and the crass words used to describe that scent are outrageous and stain an entire, honorable community. The publication humiliated the sector and made them the target of scorn and ridicule, it did so because of the color of their skin, their race and ethnicity and it has damaged their reputation," said the complainants.
Yated Ne'eman said in response to the charges that it would conduct an inquiry into the matter with the author of the article and that the paper would issue an apology for offending the Yemenite community. [Ynet]
“But from the point of view of Nutrition, they are correct
i have a diff “point of view”
YES if a ‘point of view of ‘Nutrition” – can’t they keep politics; racism out of its contents I can just imagine how their ‘POLITICAL point of view’ looks like!?!!
HASHEM YERACHAYM!!!
the hamodia is a much better paper because it is chassidish
but it is impressive because they use a much better writing style than the Jewish Press when the modern orthodox jews are so proud of their educations why is the chassidishe Hamodia so much better
i never read the yated – they have offended me on several occassions
syog lchachma shtika.

Stop whinning!!!!! The YATED is correct. If the article was to bash the yemenites, then it was wrong. But from the point of view of Nutrition, they are correct. A person’s diet will mostly determine what they smell like. Eat garlic, and your sweat will have a garlic smell. Indians has a pungent smell from eating cumion. Chineese eat their fish. It is a scientific fact that what you eat will determine what your sweat smells like.

that may or may not be true, but there are more polite ways of putting things.
SHUT THE JEW HAITING PAPER DOWN NOW

The Yated in Israel and the USA Yated are nominally divorced, but they are still sleeping together.
Being that most people thing that both yateds are connected then it is only right that the American yated come out with a statement stating so and setting the record straight that they disagree.
The jewish preess is arond the longest and overall is the best modernized jewish newspaper no doubt. you can joke about it. There sales show the facts they are the most sold jewish newspaper in the world. No offense to any of the other papers but there idea of a jewish paper is stolen from R Shalom Klass that was done with the guid some of the Gedolim Of his time who were big. In response to the yated neeman every newspaper eventually is going to run into hurting a certain ethnicity by reporting the way it is or to target a specific readership. This is media. The whole thing is reedicoulous.
The Yated in Israel has NOTHING to do with the Yated in Amercia; they are two totally seperate entities….So before you start bashing R’ Pinny Lipschutz, get your facts straight…
same name same game
the 2 papers split a few years ago
Israel is the the place of most anti semitic hate, ashkenazim hate sefardim, sefardim hate yemenites, all the above hate russians jews, syrian jews hate marrocan jews, georgians jews, bucharian jews, falasha mura (safek)jews, chilonim hate charedim, socialits left hate nacionalist right, nationalist religious hate secular left. The State of Israel is not a place for Ahavas Israel

They’re not the same company?
Wake up everyone! This is about the Israeli Yated not the American one!
What about Ashkenazim who smell of the pungent odor of herring and raw onions (yuk)! And I am an Ashkenazi who hates it! Will the holy Yated write about it?
547 i hope you’re being facetious
There has been much worse said in the Yated over the years about other sects of yiddim, glad someone find stood up and screamed “fire”.
In Chabad or in Chasidim in General this would never happen.
I hope they sue for millions. (Hakoton)Pinny has to realize that he is not un-touchable.
Whether or not the Yated does, indeed offend a fellow Jew, that doesn’t mean you should, therefore, subscribe to the Jewish Press.
Personally, I don’t read either and prefer to read the secular media, or, for Jewish news, Hamodia.
yated = anti semites
They are self haiting jews with the backing of all the “GEDOILIM” shame on all those that sell or read it your no better then the ponim chadushos
wow I guess in their version of shmiras halashon and chofetz chaim it is ok to be mevazeh an entire tzibur birabim
Leave it up to the Yated to offend a fellow jew, but G-D forbid you should bring the Jewish Press into your home.
So the Yated, not content with offending Chassidim, Lubavitchers, Modern Orthodox and Sefardim have now added Yemenites to their list. Job well done.
