Tehran - Anti-Semitic Photo Wins Iranian 'Occupy' Competition |
|
A prizewinning cartoon by Mahmod Mohammad Tabrizi equates Wall Street with Jerusalem’s Western Wall.Tehran, Iran - An anti-Semitic cartoon depicting religious Jews praying in front of Jerusalem’s Western Wall took first prize in the inaugural Iranian “Wall Street Downfall” art festival. The winning artist, Mohammad Tabrizi, was awarded 5,000 euros for his entry.
The event, held earlier this week in Tehran, was meant to support the US’s grassroots “Occupy Wall Street”- a grassroots movement which aims to eliminate income inequalities and excesses in the US financial system.
Over 1600 cartoonists from 45 countries submitted entries to the competition, according to Iran’s official English-language Press TV. The contest’s seven judges hailed from Iran, Turkey, Poland and Romania.
“Once again, Iran takes the prize for promoting anti-Semitism,” said Abraham Foxman, director of of the Anti-Defamation League. “The winning cartoon takes the most sacred site in Judaism and perverts it into a shrine of greed. It is offensive on so many levels.”
In 2006, in response to the publishing of caricatures of the Muslim prophet Mohammed by a Danish newspaper, Iran sponsored a Holocaust cartoon contest.

This is the classic stuff that Der Sturmer, ran in Germany in the 1930's to get the population riled up against the Jews. If I was in charge in Israel, I would just nuke Tehran tomorrow. I'm talking about Central Tehran, not their atomic facilities. Let the world be damned, no one will do a thing to Israel and Israel will finally get some respect. And I'm really not interested in all the hand wringing about the "innocent women and children"; children grow up to become nasty adult anti-Semites and women are usually bigger haters than the men and produce a new anti-semite each of their 25 child bearing years.
If Chas V'sholom the shoe was on the other foot, there would be another 6 million less Jews in the world; I have no doubt that Israel would be wiped out by the Holy Mullahs.

What is interesting about the picture is like the nazis ym's these current day muslim nazis don't distnguish between different types of Jews. You have a Jew dressed in modern clothing as well as 2 Jews dressed in Satmar garb.

This is scary. And note how the artist is clueless about how Jews pray. One of them is prostrating himself like a muslim. Blind, clueless hate. May Hashem protect us.

I'm wondering what is the political message of the cartoon? That Jews worship money? That Wall Street is controlled by Jews? That two and a guy without a jacket control Wall Street? That the Kotel is actually in New York? That Har Habait has been re-designed with Greek temple architecture on top of the Kotel instead of a gold Mosque dome? Come to think of it, the juxtaposition of the stones of the Kotel, symbolizing classic Jewish control of the Holy Land, and the Greek architecture of the NY Stock Exchange building, symbolizing Western Helenist dominion of the Holy Land and the whole world extending until today and in the cartoon dominating the Kotel, can be taken as a poignant commentary on the status of the Jew as being in Galut.ntheres also a subtheme of the long term irrelevance of Islam, as symbolized by its complete absence from the image which depicts what is supposedly eir third most important religious site.
In sum, other than regurgitating tired old charactures and motifs of 1930's German cartoons (with the addition of the Kotel which only became a well known symbol after 1967) what is the new message of this cartoon?

"Interesting" ?
Its sad that you think it could be any different. They dont care if you are a zionist or anti-zionist - they hate all the Jews equally!

Are some going to launch a "fatwa" on this "artist" and the other contenders? No, because 1-nothing depends on any of these graphic artists and 2- they are a bunch of deeply anti-semite goyim (so what good can you expect of them, even if punished?).

there isn't any, and there is no reason for anyone to get worked up about this cartoon. Thinking about it from the perspective of the stereotypes that have of us, it is avctually kind of funny.
And bottom line, you should be flatterred, not scared that they believe the small Jewish nation has control of world finance, banking, media, entertainment, hollywood, etc., where the arab world is the leader in what? camel production?

It seems that there is a lack of knowledge. First of all in central theran lives a few thousand of jews, to say to attack or nuclear there is in my opinion shefikhas dumim. Secondly most of the civillians there are not terrorrists and even not antisemites on the contrary the jews and the iranians live there together and they dont have any problems there.
It is interesting that even ahmadinejad donated in theran a jewish hospital as it was published in the media and furthermore there is a jewish represantetive in the iranian government. I know that they are anti israel but if they were antisemites they would expel the jewish community there as all other arab countries did and for sure not donate for them. In fact the second biggest jewish community in the middle east is in iran. I met already a lot of iranian jews and they all told me that they have all priviliges and freedom there.

Didn't some Israeli humor magazine threaten to swamp the Iranian humor magazine with anti-Semitic cartoons? (The idea was nobody could outdo homegrown talent.) What ever became of that?
