New York – While the race for the Democratic seat in New York’s 8th congressional district may have been a local one, an analysis of funds raised by Hakeem Jeffries, who scored a resounding victory over Charles Barron, shows that out of state donors, including Jewish supporters, played a major part in the election.

Out of state donations represented 47% of the funds raised by Jeffries, with 60% coming from non-New York City residents, according to a report in the Daily News. Many contributors to Jeffries’ war chests were Jewish, concerned by opponent Charles Barron’s alleged anti Semitic statements, former membership in the Black Panthers and endorsement by David Duke, the former Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan.
Westchester County resident Stanley Wasserman, who made a $1,800 contribution to Jeffries’ campaign, told the Daily News that a donation to Jeffries was one way of ensuring that Barron not emerge victorious in the democratic primary.
“I’ve known about his opponent, Charles Barron, for many, many years,” said Wasserman. “Nasty, divisive – I believe he is anti-Semitic. We don’t need a guy like that in Congress. I looked into it and I like Jeffries, a strong candidate, about unity, not divisiveness, and thought he’d be good for Congress.”
We Jews voted for Obama and Jeffries goes to show we vote on the merits and instinc and of course not on color.
The election was deceided based on the message, not the money. The hate spewing mouth of Charles Baron is what lead to his defeat not money from out of state.
