Borough Park madman Levi Aron accused of dismembering a lost boy made a video appearence from Rikers Island on May 25 2012.New York - A few sources have confirmed to VIN News that Levi Aron has agreed to plead guilty to the murder of Leiby Kletzky.
Aron is scheduled to appear in court next week for a trial and VIN News has learned that Aron after agreeing to plead guilty will receive a lengthy sentence for the murder of the Borough Park boy last July.

Assemblyman Dov Hikind told VIN News, “Ever since a story broke this afternoon, our office has been inundated with calls. It is our understanding that a deal has been reached but things can change. Until this is officially announced, it鈥檚 premature to say that this matter is concluded.
“The Kletzky family has been through more than any of us can or should imagine. They want to bring this to a conclusion without the additional pain of a lengthy trail.
“I will be at the court next week to address the public and press on behalf of the Kletzky family, at their request. The family asks that their privacy is respected. They have been through quite enough.”

well this has not come up in a long time but if true it can put to rest the stupidity that a "not guilty by insanity" defense would have held any water. And I am talking about the "legal" definition. If you have no idea what the "insanity" defense really is then don't respond to my post. In the legal system, if his lawyers had a case with the insanity plea then they would have gone for it ... clearly they did not.

the person does not know right from wrong but there is more to it rarely works that defence

Actually there was a term of incarceration of a murderer that Beth din couldn't come up with enough evidence, its mentioned in the Talmud.

that mite be true , however the prosecution mite not have wanted to take a chance with a trial and that is why they offered this deal.

there is no such halacha in talmud, and un this case such a murder wouldnt even go in gules;

He is talking about when for example, if they had Eidim but no Hasra'ah, they would lock him in the Kipah (prison) and starve him until his stomach shrank. Then they would feed him raw barley until his shrunken stomach would burst. This is mentioned in the Gemara and brought down in the Rambam.

There is such an halacha, if bais din knows for sure, but no aidim, that somebody killed. They should lock him in a room with out food.

Anonymous, please don't darshen about M'Naghten or PL 40.15. In point of fact, it is EXTRAORDINARILY RARE for an insanity defense to succeed. Nationally, it's probably works 1% of the time which is why it makes news.
Once Aron passed his 730 exam (note to the audience: that means he was found fit to stand trial in that he was capable of understanding the charges against him and could assist in his defense), the only form of insanity the defense could argue was insanity at the time of the commission of the offense. That's a roll of the dice they didn't want to make since with the bad odds they have, losing would have meant a life sentence.

There should be NO plea deal allowed in the case. It should go to trial and let ALL the facts out, even if it's going to hurt some frum doctors, rabbis, and askanim!

I don't believe he is being charged in Federal Court with a federal crime. do you?
