Jerusalem - The IDF will work to increase haredi enlistment until the Knesset finds a replacement for the Tal Law, Defense Minister Ehud Barak told the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee Monday.

The military’s priorities as it puts together its interim proposal by the end of August, Barak said, are to 1) increase haredi enlistment, 2) increase enforcement and 3) promote haredi entry into the workforce. The current system, by which yeshiva registry allows haredim to defer army service time after time is “not right” for Israel and must be changed.

The army hopes to integrate Haredim both in combat roles and in functional positions such as police, prison services and, eventually, MDA rescue services as well, the minister added.

Barak also added that service should, in the long run, by shortened, and pay increased for soldiers.

I do not want you to stop learning. I just want you to learn something useful. Torah is certainly useful, although I sometimes wonder if you really learn or just want to say you do. I would want you to do something in addition. Spelling might help. Don't go to the IDF. Don't rely on the IDF to defend you. Don't rely on Israel to support you. Teheran is beautiful in August.

If they want us to serve, then aside whatever else, they have to show they mean it. Why did the Nachal Chareidi chief officer have to call Zaka last erev Shabbos to request food with a mehadrin hechsher for the men for Shabbos -- which ended up being provided by the way, quite generously from many stores in Bnei Brak. The answer it seems, is that the IDF doesn't take the chareidim seriously.

Oish - I feel sad for your remark. Is it possible that your yeshiva didn't give you adequate tools to read and write English? Do we have a system of poverty and ignorance by design? In my humble opinion, national service (which would include learning some vital skills), will be a good thing. Anyone can do OK in the ghetto of the shtetl. Take your Torah values into the bigger world and be m'karev other Yidden. That will make a mentsch out of so many and lower the walls of fear and ignorance. Just my opinion.

Again, your dark vision for the future role of Chareidim in the economy will be proven wrong. There are growing numbers of charedei bochurim being lured out of kollels with promises of job training and time for torah study. In the first three months of 2102, the IDF recruited nearly twice the number of kollel yungerleit they recruited last year, both in the traditional Nahal units as well as other specialy units where they would have an easier time be shomer torah umitzvos wherever possible These boys are also serving as the best rercuitiing officers and attracting others from their yeshivos and kollels to enlist. So while the rabbonim are screaming gevalt, the facts on the ground shos a slow but steady migration into the IDF based on the incentives offered. Within a few years, a much large percentage will be serving and the IDF will have learned how to better accomodate them. The smaller numbers of draft evaders left in the kollels will begin to question their own reasoning for not serving the medinah. This will be one are where change will occur notwithstanding the preferences of a few gadolim to the contrary.

The IDF is holy.
They are modern day Jewish warriors doing God's work.

It takes a "tumna" to call these children unclean.
I hope you begin to look at yourself and your deeds...
Remember to be dan lcaf zechus

alterg need not take any notice whatsoever of "this goyim on the pic".

In fact, if he did it would be a massive chilul haShem and a bitul torah on his part, to say nothing of a massive act of self-deception.

The reason for that is quite simple: as alterg does not "recognize" the existence of the State of Israel, and because alterg has never been any further east than the Tappan Zee bridge in his entire life, to say nothing of never setting foot in EY, he and his twisted conscience can rest easy.

As for "the goyim on the pic", I am 100% convinced that they and alterg are completely united on one crucial point: they "don't wane be togather" with alterg either.

alterg is absolutely correct on yet another point: everything he writes about the State of Israel is, as he himself has written, "its a waste of time & waste of talk".

Hence my remark about alterg's total bitul zman ubitul Torah.

Your comment has been drawing a lot of negative responses. Just ignore them. You've expressed your (legitimate) point of view on a subject about which your responders get overly emotional, irrational, and mindlessly venomous. Personally, I got the biggest laugh from the ignorant comment regarding Tehran, which really is quite a fine city. So are Isfahan and Shiraz.
