New York – Despite rumors to the contrary, El Al officials have yet to make a determination regarding the bargain basement fares that were snatched up by quick fingered consumers this past Monday, the result of an incorrect fare posted online.

El Al’s media director Sheryl Stein told VIN News that the airline is still trying to determine the appropriate course of action following the ticketing blitz and that despite numbers being circulated by the media, the airline cannot confirm how many tickets were sold at the heavily discounted price.
El Al’s official statement released this afternoon by the airline read, “Details and decisions regarding the incorrect airfares that were briefly sold on Monday of this week have not yet been finalized. An update will be provided tomorrow.”
As hopeful ticket holders await El Al’s decision, the Department of Transportation confirmed to VIN News that they will be investigating the matter.
“We are aware of El Al promotion and are looking into it,” said Bill Mosley, spokesperson for the Department of Transportation.
Who are they kidding? This is exactly what DOT’s consumer protection rules are about.
If it was a rogue employee intentionally out to damage his/her employer, I could see the basis for denying the tickets; but it’s hard to believe that only one person would have the authority to post airfares, I would think several levels of authority would have to sign off before a fare went live. Also, it’s not like this is the first time things like this have happened on other airlines, so if it was an accident then they should live with the consequences and “happy jetting!”
If someone accidentally listed a million dollar home in Boro Park for 100,000 and someone sent cash to the owner, would any court, Jewish or secular, rule that the sale was valid?!
But let’s imagine that the airfare also left off the security fees. Then the government could step in and invalidate the sale.
How much were they charging at that “discounted” price? Anyone out there actually snag one?
For me its not interest, cause I’m a frum jew & we not traveling with EL AL all the time they are big tziyonim & we done wane support isreal its a gainst hashem to take a own land
if the government rules that el al must honor the tickets – can a jew insist that they honor it – it is obviously a mekach tous – which can always be cancelled –
