According to his letter of resignation, Petraeus asked President Barack Obama on Thursday to allow him to resign, and on Friday the president accepted.
Petraeus said in a statement that he had shown “extremely poor judgment” in having an affair.
Allowing himself to serve under Obama in itself was an affair.
May the US rest in peace!
Another in the long line of “conservative” “moralists” with good “family values” who believes in the “sanctity of marriage” — between one man and two women.
As the director of the CIA, he couldn’t keep this a secret???
Just before Congressional Hearings he resigns…I don’t believe the excuse.
This is a horrible shame. The General has been married for 37 years & was a spectacular military man! Well respected on both sides of the aisle! It’s unreal what he’s done to his life, just for a couple of rolls in the hay! And his poor wife…how humiliating!
I’m glad he resigned though. We just simply cannot reward behavior like this! Not to mention, it could be a huge distraction from the task at hand! We just cannot allow a major General to be out galavanting w\his Biographer! Dangerous & Dumb! :-\
If you’re in a sensitive military or government post anything which would open you up to blackmail is a very serious matter.
For the DCI to have an affair is career-ending stupid.
So I guess in America the President (Clinton) can have an affair with no consequences, but the CIA director has to resign. Now that makes sense.
Regarding Clinton, he was impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives, for lying to Congress, and obstruction of justice. Unfortunately, he was cleared in the U.S. Senate, as the Senate voted mostly along party lines. When Clinton was asked how it felt to be impeached, he stated “Not bad”. If his affair had been revealed prior to the 1996 elections, he probably would not have been reelected.
the affair is his own business, he shouldn’t have resigned.
