The New York petition was created Nov. 10 by someone identified only as “C R,” who lists his or her city as Grand Forks, N.D.

Westchester, Rockland, Ulster, Orange, Dutchess and Putnam counties were all represented by endorsers of the New York petition, with Stony Point, Carmel, Poughkeepsie, Wappingers Falls, Saugerties, Yonkers and Yorktown Heights coming up more than once in the signatures.

Oh please . . . . NY is a Democratic bastion and in any case would probably not be better off on its own.

Actually, at least 19 other states also petitioned the gov’t (first LA, TX and AL). So far only Texas received the necessary 25,000 signatures, but some others are close.

This is so dumb. Does nobody remember what happened the last time states tried this secession thing? It didn’t work out too well for them.

Texas is a republic. Maybe it should just go back to Mexico. LA can be sold back to France. Did any of these dirt poor states think of what they were going to live on since they will not be receiving social security because they will not be part of the USA. How many people are going to move? Is New York going back to the Dutch? Maybe it should,. They would have built dikes!!

Places like NYC are the problem so this is dumb.
That being said, if the South (same states in confederacy– Texas up to Virginia, with or without FL) succeeded, it would be a lot more economically viable than the ‘Union” . The Union can keep bankrupt California.

Staten Island voted and had a majority to secede from NYC and nothing ever happened-to how much more so will nothing happen to the 15 or so – states that are petitioning to secede. It will never happen. It is simply an act to express extreme discontent with what is going on. Now the democrates are looking into Romney’s proposed tax plan as perhaps doable- which, during the campaign, Obama called “sketchy with window dressing”

To #13 Did you stop to think : What happens if chas v’shalom if there is another storm? Who pays then? NO FEMA??????????

The US couldn’t afford it if NY withdrew from the US. New York gets back about 65 cents for each dollar it contributes to the federal government in taxes. Blue NY is supporting freeloading red states like Alabama and Mississippi.

Apparently the school system in North Dakota failed CR. “It’s own government”?!

I don’t know if anyone really thinks it will work but if “30” states file petitions showing their displeasure maybe (wishful thinking) someone in Washington will get the message…….. Could happen????

That’s a great idea!! I’m for it. We’ll have Michael Bloomberg as president.
The first law that he will change will be, to remove term limits, and here we go, King Dictator Bloomberg will be president in NYS forever like in Cuba. When he will become very old and sick he will give over the kingdom to his brother.
The second law will be to forbid cars. Only special people will be allowed to travel by car, the rest will have to go by bike.
    3) Real Estate Tax will double every year.
    4) If you drink more than 5 ounces colored soda a day, you will sentenced for death penalty.
    5) The most important law; NO BLACK HATS TO BE WORN!!!!!!!!!!!
    6) Parking meters (for bikes) will be $0.50 for 5 minutes.
    7) Parking Tickets (for bikes) will start by $500.00
The list is very big, I think i said more than enough.

This is no different than the boy who takes his baseball home with him because he doesn’t like losing. And just as mature.

Without NY Obama wouldn’t really win that easy so I don’t get it. But I do. Its a national movement to fill out these petitions and we all should sign.
