New York – Twitter Suspends Account Of Orthodox Jew for Posting Anti-Obama Cartoon

New York – Benjamin Reisman, a 25-year-old Orthodox Jew from New York City, saw his three different Twitter accounts shut down by the micro-blogging site after he tweeted an anti-Obama cartoon on Tuesday depicting the Obama administration stabbing Israel in the back with the message, “Don’t worry Israel, Obama has your back.”

“Social media sites have an awesome responsibility to keep to our right of free speech,” Reisman told The Daily Caller (http://bit.ly/XQPsUv).

The suspended accounts, with the handles @RealGazaPeace, @RealGazaPeace1 and @GazaRealStory, were all cancelled by Twitter even though Reisman only tweeted the cartoon from the first account.

Twitter spokesman Jim Prosser declined to tell The Daily Caller why Reisman’s accounts were suspended or if they will be re-instated, saying only, “We don’t comment on individual accounts.” However, Twitter does have a section under its published rules entitled “Violence and Threats”, which advises users that they “may not publish or post direct, specific threats of violence against others.”

But Reisman, who now admits he “should not have sent” the cartoon, says Twitter is not applying its rules fairly, and points out that no action was taken against Hamas or its pro-Palestinian supporters for posting “Death to the Jews” and other threats of bloodshed. For instance, the account belonging to the al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’ military arm, was not suspended even when it called for a “New Holocaust” against Jews back in April 2011. “One Nation For New Holocaust, God willing. Check this video” the tweet said, with a link to a You Tube video.

“Enter “Hitler”, “Death to Jews” or any similar search” on Twitter, Reisman said, “and the volume of tweets, hate-filled and promoting death and violence, is quite shocking. I would just hope that this rule is equally enforced to both sides.”

“I believe that any threat to Jews, or areas with high Jewish population is never something to be taken lightly,” Reisman continued. “When seeing all the baseless hate towards Israel, and calls for Hitler to come back and finish the job on Twitter, Twitter does not do anything. However, when I try to support my people, and consistently get shut down, it makes me wonder if this is happening on a larger scale.”

Archived tweets provided by Topsy.com show that at least 12 other Twitter users posted the same cartoon as Reisman without any repercussions.

jf so maybe there is another reason

    1. First, Twitter doesn’t know the person is an orthodox Jew. It looks like an anti-Semitic cartoon of someone stabbing Israel in the back.

    2. The idiot who posted the cartoon should read the news. The Obama administration has been 1000% percent supportive of Israel in the past few days. You could not ask for more.

    3. May I inform the genius who posted this picture that Obama won re-election. The time for anti-Obama mentality and slurs have passed. He is supporting Israel. What more in the world could you want.

All in all, a dumb thing and a chillul hashem.

Twitter can suspend anyone they want. Its their website and they can interpret and enforce their rules, even if others think its arbitrary. I hope this guy, and anyone else posting such hateful comments is publicly humiliated and punished by their peers.

racial??? read my quote again! tell me one thing i wrote that sounded remotely racist ? if saying that i hate his policy’s makes me a racist then maybe u should go back to the dictionary and look up the word “racist” or better look up the word “policy” and saying obama won because of his skin color is not a racist statement its a fact . so stop with ur stupied name calling . ur sounding like a true liberal. oh wait! but that’s what libs. do best.
