Nassau, Bahamas - A helicopter crashed early Thursday in an upscale Bahamas resort community, killing one U.S. citizen and injuring four others, police reported.

Abaco Police Superintendent Noel Curry said all five passengers were Americans, but he could not confirm the identities or genders of the dead person or the four survivors. He also said he could not immediately comment on the extent of the survivors’ injuries.

A Florida television station, CBS Miami, identified one of the survivors as Jeffrey Soffer, principal of Florida-based real estate developer Turnberry Associates, and the owner of Miami’s famous Fontainebleau hotel.

Renardo Curry, Parliament member for North Abaco, said the helicopter was attempting to land at the exclusive Baker’s Bay Golf & Ocean Club on Great Guana Cay when a wind gust sent the aircraft spiraling.

An employee of the resort community told The Associated Press that he helped residents pull people out of the wreckage. He described the crash as a “nightmare.”

“They got into an air pocket and it went into a tailspin. It recovered, and then it went into a tailspin again and from there it hit the ground. The tail came off and the cabin just went into a spin and somebody got thrown out,” said the Baker’s Bay employee, who insisted on not being quoted by name because he wasn’t authorized to speak with journalists.

Baker’s Bay is a playground for millionaires located about 150 miles off Florida’s eastern coast. It includes an oceanfront golf course, a private family beach club and boutique shops.

There were roughly 180 people on the island property for Thanksgiving festivities, the resort employee said.

“Everyone who was there in one way or another helped out,” said Curry, the police superintendent.

I'm curious. If a frum man gets hit by a car while walking in Brooklyn would you say that is a wake-up call that he should get further from hashem and live a less torah-dig lifestyle? Or do you only apply your nevuah when it makes you feel good?

Why do you equate monetary success with a lack of direction? There are those whose purpose in life is to give tzedaka. Why is there class warfare amongst yidden? Who is supposed to support those in kollel? Drinking the Left's Look-Aid perhaps?

When a tzorah occurs we ALL must do teshuva. So if another Yid is involved in a helicopter crash or the yidden in Seagate & 5 towns etc are all suffering WE ALL MUST repent.

Hashem is sending us all a message!

What a shallow and insensitive comment. Why do people love to play God when their is a tragedy? Accidents happen to kollel learning people too.....What about the ritz and jetsetting Rebbeim who vacation in palm springs, florida, go with their expensive cars, furs, escorts with lights and sirens? ritz and glitz, heh?

You should use your own asinine post as a wake-up call to the fact that you should keep quiet.

People are constantly looking at everyone else and commenting on their lives.
Let everyone just worry about their own relationship with G-d and how they can be
better people and not look at changing other people. A tragedy happened.
Stop analyzing everything. Enough already!!!!

Ever cross your mind that until the bal shem most jews looked like him? Or are you so entrapped within the hassidus cult that you started talking like a real taliban?

Agreed! And let's not forget all those "oy vey" doom & gloom Yidden who call for a Kinos & t'hillim gatherings every few weeks because of all the "terrible tragedies" that are befalling us, not realizing that with "bli ayin horeh" a large frum population, and instant communication amongst all of us, tragedies, while painful to us all (and devastating to those involved and their loved ones) are part of life, and while surely the Ribono Shel Olem knows why them and not us, we can only endeavor to do tshuvah as we are all supposed to continuously do regardless.

This is actually historically incorrect. Jews did not start removing their beards until long after the time of the Besht. Perhaps the lange payos were not as common until Chassidus was revealed.
