The odd-even system is set to end at 6 a.m. Saturday. Mayor Michael Bloomberg signed an order Friday confirming the restriction would expire.
He says more than 85 percent of gas stations in the city are now running, compared to 25 percent two weeks ago.
Under the rules, any given car can be gassed up every other day.
The system went into effect in the city Nov. 9, after damage to gas stations and fuel distribution networks led to hours-long lines. On Sunday, Bloomberg extended the restriction until 6 a.m. Saturday in the city.
Similar rationing has ended in New Jersey and on Long Island.
I passed the gas station every day and saw cars with odd and even plates taking gas. Most ny’ers didn’t even know that this meshugas is still in efect.
So thank you mayor for finally realising that this is unnecessary.
Wow!! I wonder how much of his valuable time he spent deciding this. I mean this us called true leadership!!!!
Over the last week, gas stations have been virtually empty. Herr Bloomberg has lost his marbles!
Should have left it on forever. Could have been an additional source of income for the city. King Bloomberg goofed.
