New York, NY – Downed Cell Towers Disrupting Verizon’s Cellphone Service

New York, NY – Verizon cellphone customers suffered widespread service disruptions in the city Wednesday.
Customers fumed about the inconvenience of Twitter.

“Outgoing and incoming calls to and from other Verizon customers don’t work!” Joey Tartamella tweeted at about 8 a.m.
“Seems to be an outage Verizon Wireless in NYC,” Shaun To tweeted at about 8 a.m. “Can’t send texts can’t make outgoing calls. Incoming texts seem to work.”

Other customers said they were able to use their data plans to connect to the internet.

A staffer at a Verizon store said the problem was due to downed cell towers, but no official company spokespeople could be reached for comment.

It’s unclear how widespread the disruptions are or how many customers are affected.
