United Nations – UN Chief Warns Syria’s Assad With Dire Consequences Should They Use Chemical Weapons

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has written to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad urging him not to use chemical weapons in the country’s escalating conflict, the U.N. press office said on Thursday.

    In a readout of a telephone call Ban had with Ahmet Uzumcu, head of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, the U.N. press office said the U.N. chief told Uzumcu that “any use of such weapons would be an outrageous crime with dire consequences.”

    “The Secretary-General informed (Uzumcu) that he has written again to President al-Assad urging him to refrain from the use of any such weapons under any circumstances and underscoring the fundamental responsibility of the Syrian government to ensure the safety and security of any such stockpiles,” it said.

    Assad’s father used chemical weapons against his own people back in ’82, after being warned by the UN et al, not to.
    The son will also proceed to do the same, UN warning not withstanding.
    The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree!

    I guess in the UN’s opinion, it is not “outrageous” enough that this monster has assasinated over 40,000 innocent civilians…..

    I am sure Assad is terrified of the stern reprimand the UN will issue after he gasses thousands of Arab civilians. Maybe they will condemn Israel as well just for good measure.

    I realize the civilians will face dire consequences when exposed to the chemical weapons, but I don’t see what the UN can do. I assume that the rebels will kill him regardless of the use of chemical weapons. There’s a lot of violence in all Islamic nations.
