Orange County, NY – New York State Police are on the hunt for the driver of a white van who struck and killed a Kiryas Joel Sanitation Department employee today around noon before fleeing the scene of the accident. Police say the van would have sustained front-end damage.

According to Kiryas Joel Public Safety Commissioner Moses Witriol, the employee, whose name has not been released pending family notification, was crossing the street on Satmar Driver near Siget Court when he was hit. EMS responded to the accident, but the man was pronounced dead the scene.

Our hearts go out to his family. In middle of a work day one of the city’s workers going about his job and to be killed so tragically is beyond sad. We must show our gratitude to this fine city employee.
