New York – Tough Talking Hynes Vowing Zero Tolerance Policy In Abuse Cases; Hopes To Meet With Satmar Rebbes

    84

Brooklyn, NY – Fresh off the heels of his resounding conviction in the Weberman case, Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes took again to the airwaves last night on Zev Brenner’s talkline program, vowing to continue his zero tolerance policy towards not only those who molest children but also anyone who would in any way attempt to interfere with sexual abuse cases and announced his attention to discuss plans for new protocols regarding child abuse with both Satmar Rebbes.

Calling the guilty verdict in the Weberman case “a major breakthrough,” Hynes expressed his hope that the conviction, handed down unanimously by the jury in the Weberman case after just ninety minutes of deliberation, would send a clear message to abuse victims and their families that they will receive the full protection of the legal system.

Hynes reiterated his commitment to the relentless pursuit of those who use fear, intimidation, blackmail or bribery against abuse victims and their families, saying he fully intends to prosecute the four men who attempted to silence the victim in the Weberman case by offering her then boyfriend a $500,000 bribe and threatening his business, as well as the three young men who took photographs of the victim as she testified during the case.

“There will be no disposition; there will be a trial and if convicted there will be very severe penalties,” Hynes told Brenner, saying there will be no plea bargains offered in either of the two pending cases. “We will not brook any kind of intimidation any kind of threats against victims or relatives of victims in these cases.”

The district attorney’s office is still examining the cell phones of the three young men who were arrested in the courtroom last week and according to Hynes, if any of the pictures taken during the trial were found to have been uploaded to the internet, his office will ask the grand jury to add a civil rights violation to the indictment.

Hynes also announced his intention to arrest and convict the person who threw chemicals in the face of Rabbi Nuchem Rosenberg, an outspoken crusader against child molestation, as he walked down Roebling Street in Williamsburg yesterday.

Hynes called the Weberman conviction “a great opportunity for the Satmar community” and announced his intention to meet with Reb Zalman Leib Teitelbaum in order to establish new protocols in cases of child abuse, potentially modeled after similar guidelines created in Crown Heights, requiring anyone with any knowledge of child abuse to report their findings directly to the authorities, without the need for rabbinic approval.

The DA said that he would reach out to Reb Aron Teitelbaum, as well as any other chasidic leaders who would like to create a similar policy in their communities.

Hynes declared that he is confident that with Weberman’s conviction, victims of abuse will finally realize that the days of secrecy regarding molestation cases are long gone and issued a grave warning that his office is prepared to mete out justice for victims, as well as stiff penalties to anyone guilty of abuse, intimidation or otherwise interfering with the judicial process.

“I want to make it very clear that anybody who intimidates any victim, or the relatives of the victim of sexual abuse, not only in the chasidic community, but in any community, is going to face a very serious consequence.”

    points to ponder;
    1. the primary key to a “safer” communnity is education of proper & improper touch this sad case would never have gotten to this point had she told. a child knows whats “unhealthy touch”. that will protect way more than the D.A. catching a kornban or 2 a yr.
    2. clinicly & forensicly; not every person who behaved inappropiatly at some point in their life is ” a loose tiger waiting to attack”
    3. it is clear that the previous gedolim rav moshe, rav yaakov, rav pam.. knew of many cases and rarely if ever called the DA. ( ask any klal man from the lower east side to kensington. ( they knew choshen mishpat at least as well, did they not have an understanding of the trauma ?
4.”non reporting” is a part of the psyche process of the victim in all cultures ( by his own choice) see journal of forensics feb/12)
    5. what is the torah approach toward the victim moving on? if the ” toucher” is now older and more mature… is calling the police warrented simply because it will help the victim get over it.
6.we are blessed with many brilliant gedolim.. whom we turn to for guidance in all areas .. do we think that “this” they dont comprehend? maybe they dont have an easy answer

i think that at the end of the day, even people that are not thrilled with the Weberman results, can still agree that the time has come to tackle this big problem.

Even though, most people agree that we have a “problem” in the community, they are not willing to admit it once we have a “name” attached to the problem, because it hits home. But hopefully this will change, as the streets are getting back to normal, and tomorrow new news will replace the weberman news and life goes on

    7. the stakes are high from all points, can it be that the well meaning activists ( whom i believe started out meaning well became emotionally tangled and just lost it, be trusted with such DINEI NEFASHOS (when to report & when not too) can it be that the kovod of the media circus has gotten the better of them( horowitz, rosenberg , appell..)
    8. have we as a communnity offered proper help to those suffering from pedophilia. ive spoken to a number of them big and small they dont wake up and say ok let me go hunt a kid. most of them fight this sick urge and win most of the time; the problem is that most AINT ENOUGH!
lastly many remember the case of “the starving kid in the hospital in jerusalem” there are still more q’s than answers but one observation; assuming the medical director ” meant well” he may have saved the kid but at what cost ” the social service agency in isreal ( like ACS here) spent 20 yrs building bridges and dialogue with the yerushalmi community and it went out the window w/ this one story ITS FAIR TO SAY DA HYNES DID JUST THE SAME- i was a fan of his and maybe weberman is guilty( only god knows) but he lost the trust he spent 20 yrs building what do u think?

what a shande this Hynes is:
he knows weberman is innocent and instead of takeing these sub-jewes and rebels, and send them where they belong,
hes trying to be a hero on the backs of good citizens and show the media that he is tough!
shame on him, we yiden beleive in aminah and bituchen and im confident the truth will come out soon!!!!

hes acting almost as the corruptod politicians in bulivia, indicted and throwing away a father for life, and the only evidence being he said, she said, i said, u said,

Curious if this abuse claims only happens in Satmer or some people hate anything & everything about Satmer. The Satmar Rabbi had an child abuser arrested year ago he was knocked and slandered by many people for doing that, so I wonder what the real issue is here. Thanks for posting

Haynes said that the Jury convicted Weberman after just 90 Minutes of deliberations, this just shows that Weberman had No Chance and if a Chasidic Jew is accused of such a crime, he has No Chance, with hashem’s help Weberman will ultimately be Vindicated, I don’t believe that either Satmar Rebbe will meet with Hynes and they will never tel their followers to report alleged abuse to the authorities since this is mesira and they don’t believe in fairness of the Justice system, Hynes could meet with (Rabbi) Nuchem Rosenberg who has nothing better what to do with his time

What a chillul Hashem. A frum community needs a goy to teach them how to protect its own children.
If they would have followed the Torah, this would not have happened. The Shulchan Aruch says that there is no issur of mesirah regarding someone who is harming the public (e.g. a murderer, thief). Based on this, the Poskim say that as long as you have some evidence of molestation (רגלים לדבר), you must inform on the suspect to the police.

DA Hynes caved in to the activists who declared themselves as guardians of our children.
Does anyone really think that we love children being molested?
Anyone believe we don’t do anything about it?
The activists wants us to throw someone in jail for molesting. We live by the torah and have halachas and no one can pasken on his own sensitive things like this.

Because some pig animal molested and did a big big avairo does not give anyone an automatic heter to throw him in jail.Yes,it is Mesira, Contrary what we keep on hearing that its not Mesira.
Its extremely hard to explain to the world at large how can we not tell the police when someone is caught molesting. But,hey,we have many things we follow that we cant explain.
We must be thankful this country has no execution laws for molestation, imagine how many innocent Jews would’ve been executed by now.

In fact locking up a person for life is a death sentence to him and his family.

If only we would follow all of the Torah laws with such passion we use to prosecute pedophiles I’m sure moshiach would be here already.

So please look for other mitzvos to practice before you lock up Jew for life.

I don’t know if Weberman is guilty but there is clear evidence that the 3 arrested took photos in the courtroom.

I’m confused. Isn’t a girl after 12 years old considered an adult by the Torah? Does it matter that the American government interferes in its citizens’ lives like a police state?

Hynes botching a case involving rape and sex trafficking allegations in Crown Heights! his blatantly slipshod performance in actually following up on cases (unless it’s high profile) . This has resulted in the lowest conviction rate of any District Attorney in the five boroughs! Brooklynites have experienced for over 20 years the incumbancy of a man who is slipshod in prosecuting criminals!, yet cunning in getting reelected and clearing the field of opponents! .It’s high time for him to go.. Bring it on Abe George!

From what i understand is that….its true we have to take care of this problem once and for all!! that being said, i don’t think wabberman was convicted fairly to say the least all the evidence here was she said he said you said we said……………………..that’s not proof!!!!!!! and that;s not helping our problem in any way!!

Please someone answer my question seriously, does anyone deny the allegations that he spent enough time with her in situations that there were Yichud problems, and if nobody denies that then according to all halachic opinions he is a porutz learayos and chashud to be oveir the worst of aviros. Why then is anyone backing him. I have yet to hear a good response to this point, please someone answer this question without beating around the bush.

You want cooperation with Satmar. Don’t convicte someone based on how satmar is protrayed in court. I have no clue if Weberman is innocent or guilty but one thing I do know. That is how he was convicted. There was no evidence his word against her word. NO eyewitnesses of improper behavior No DNA. Totally circumstantial evidence. What they did show in court was how satmar bullies those not dressed tznius? They ostricize those that snitch. Tryed to pay off family. Weberman embezzled money for his own use. He charged a fortune. He was unlicensed. (how many rabbonim and shalom bais experts are licensed). They were portrayed as a taliban , bully cult who disrepsects the law. That maybe all true. But it should not prove guilt. What it does do is it provides an image to the jury that these guys are nuts so be default he is guilty. Thats is wrong.
This is why Satmar will not and should not engage with Hynes unless he can promise a fair trail without smearing satmar and convicting someone based on a smear campaign

    # 34 robert zimmerman- mesirah does not apply in “this case” –
to be accurate, no posek will say any allegations = no mesirah –
( asked rav willig from riverdale ) they say that when you need the authorities than its not mesirah ( i work as a lab tech in an icu , and have watched as a doctor , relative & rav scheinberg meet, and there are differing rabbinnic opinions when a respirater is to be connected & when not – but each & every patients records are reviewed over & over to BE ABSOLUTLY SURE – i humbly think to call the DA is no less serious a shaaloh!
#30 jay- you bring a valid point however i think you missed it the term porutz is regarding their not being careful AND THEREFORE you need more shmira but NOT THAT lax in yichud = resonable suspicion to prosecute for a full understanding see rabbi ribiat sefer yichud note 397-402 ( how brilliant were our chachomim to keep us distant from sin & yes boundries were crossed that should not have been
bizman chazal what was the punishment for such a crime?????

    The case was disturbing.
However, some the comments on VIN have convinced me satmar = mafia.
Please DA Hynes save the children. Investigate every aspect the same as you did with the mob. There are so many good fine people in w’berg. Save them frum the criminally influential mob that misrepresents torah, and chassidus.
These pro-molester comments show how widespread the sickness is. What else do you need to create a special prosecuter, call the FBI or whoever.
Normal families can stand scrutiny, these abnormal perverts will fail scrutiny and their children can be saved.

    My dear Satmar Friends,

The Torah was not given to you as a stick to hit others with. You can’t terrorize everyone ,use violence, go to the courts, use male therapists who break all the boundries and then scream at everyone else about tzniyus, arkoyes, mentclichkiet etc.
Let us all be mekabel to better ourselves. Care about the defenseless, the weak and the other. Let us empower bes din to deal with the real issue and not “kol dealem gvar”.

How many secular “molesters” has DA Hynes prosecuted/convicted? Anybody have those statistics? And how many created this media circus? I have that number: 0. What does that say about this case?
This case has opened the door for any yid who has a bone to pick with another to take him/her to court instead of the torah derech to go to a bais din.

I believe, the satmar people, both satmar, will get together in williamsburg and boro park to vote in a new DA. Satmar, when they combine their votes, they have the ability to throw out every politician. Mr. Hynes miscalculated the satmar vote bloc. It’s true their was division lately between the two faction, however, in that subject they work together. They will unite and vote in a new DA.

There was physical evidence against him but the search was bad so the judge threw it out. Satmar are men without a country. The USA is merely a transit point until the Messiah comes so it is not theircountry. Israel is standing in the way of the Messiah coming so Israel is not their country. The Satmar are not a religion they are a cult of personality. Something tells me the Teitelbaum’s of Hungry were related to the Weberman’s there.
