Albany, NY – Republican state Sen. Stephen Saland, who cast the critical vote to legalize gay marriage in New York, has conceded that he lost his re-election bid.

The veteran Saland ended a long count of absentee ballots in the Hudson Valley race that included praise from Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo for what he called a courageous vote of conscience.
With Saland’s decision Thursday, Democrat Terry Gipson is the winner of the 41st Senate District race that was too close to call on election night.
Saland has represented the district in Putnam and Dutchess counties for more than 20 years and was among the most respected members of the Senate. He had sponsored important legislation for schools and to combat child abuse.

It would be a shame if gay marriage was the issue that cost him the race. He was on the right side. If frum jews think homosexuality is a sin, then they don’t have to partake. Why would they care if non-jews or secular jews who are already legally engaged in homosexuality have the right to a civil marriage? Frum jews dont always care about civil marriage , especially when there’s a financial benefit to remaining unmarried in the eyes of the govt.

This whole discussion is rediculius, He did not cause anything, gay did not cause anything, He caused his defeat by ticking off ppl enough that they voted 3rd party conservative rather the vote for a GOPer who votes like a dem.
