Washington – The National Rifle Association said on Tuesday it is “prepared to offer meaningful contributions” to prevent future massacres like the Connecticut shooting on Friday, marking a sharp change in tone for the nation’s largest gun rights group.

“The National Rifle Association of America is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters – and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown,” the organization said in a statement sent to reporters.
The NRA plans a news conference on Friday after staying silent out of respect for families in Newtown, Connecticut, and as a matter of common decency, the statement said.
When NRA love their children more than they love your guns maybe than there can be some meaningful gun control laws in this country!

Yes, a knife could have been used, cyanide could have been used, molotov cocktails could have been used, gasoline bombs – you get the idea. An assault rifle was used and an assault rifle is not a defensive weapon. People, who are members of the NRA, don’t love their children less than they love their handguns or hunting rifles. Their are members who think that an assault rifle will be more of a deterent than a handgun and in some parts of America they’re correct. NRA members take classes, continual training and shoot at gun clubs and ranges. Please cite the last known NRA member that committed an act of equal carnage at a public facility, cite the last 5 if you can. This is a tragedy, don’t make a mockery of it.
Thje undeniable fact is that people with guns kill people. To kill 28 people with a knife would take considerable time,allowing others to flee and there’s a very good chance that some of the stabbed would survive.

For argument sake I do believe that this guy and so many other crazy people out there should not have access to any weapon, with this being said you have to look at statistics and the statistics show that where guns our more popular there’s less violence since the crazy guy is scared of being shot himself.

Our system is so confusing: Mail Fraud and murders are treated alike. Poor SMR and many alike, as well as J Pollard are victims of hungry prosecuters who are eager to have on their resume that they succesfully robbed people of their life! A mass murder is treated simillar to them!!!
Its not the sale of guns. Its the message that our system teaches. This MUST change so people get to differentiate!

Timothy Mcveigh killed 168 people, and injured hundreds more with materials he bought a local hardware store.
Arab terrorists killed over 3,000 Americans on 9/11 using box cutters.
If you really believe that GUNS commit murder, then you should be committed to the psyche ward and have your head checked.
Why not think of it this way: if any of the staff were armed and trained, they could have defended the school against this madman who happened to find a semi-automatic rifle.

The assistant principal, running back with his .45, spotted the rifle-carrying shooter in the parking lot. Ordering the teen to stop, the vice principal held his gun to the shooter’s neck until police arrived.

Anyone who thinks it must be logical that you can’t kill so many with a knife should look at china where there have been two mass murders by a person with a knife. I know atleast one of them was a daycare ora preschool. While many people are right that an assault rifle might not be necessary to have for private the citizens, the fact is when others have guns on them much fewer people die. guns kill. guns save lives.
to #19 maybe it’s true but the only reason guns are needed to defend against armed crazies in the first place is because of availability of weapons.
That said Israel has a high per capita gun ownership rate and far fewer gun-related crimes so clearly it is not about gun ownership alone.
