New York - Google Launches Spanish Jewish Heritage Website |

New York - Google has partnered with the Network of Jewish Neighborhoods (Juderias de Eapaña), a nonprofit organization founded in 1995 dedicated to protecting “urban, architectural, historical, artistic and culturally Sephardic heritage and Jewish culture in Spain,” to develop the Routes of Sepharad or Caminos di Sefarad website which was launched this week in Madrid.
Powered by Google Maps and Street View technology, visitors can now take a virtual tour of the primary Jewish landmarks in 24 cities and towns in Spain. Users can click on a landmark to learn information about the site and see a 360-degree view of the location, reports the Spanish-language website Hoy.es (http://bit.ly/ZWbB4H).
A total of 523 sites, 910 dates, and 1,667 photos are now available online according to a blog post written by William Echikson, head of Google External Relations for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
The Routes of Sepharad website can be viewed at www.redjuderias.org.

Maybe if the zoom is powerful enough you can see martyr blood stains. On the bright side they might lose Jewish tourist income.

there was very little jewish blood spilled in Spain (at least in comparison to Eastern Europe). Jews were persecuted, primarily in the 1400s and eventually expelled), but generally were not killed. Even after the expulsion, during the period of the Inquisition, very few Jews were killed by the auto-da-fe, as it was extremely difficult for the church to prove guilt.

So it was ok to spill a "little" Jewish blood, as long as it wasn't your ancestors? Most of the Spanish Jews were wealthy, educated and participated in the society of the time as doctors, lawyers, and statesmen among other things. All that was ripped away and the "life" of these Jews was destroyed just as if they'd been killed. If the Pasha of Turkey hadn't taken them in, they would have been killed. Read the expulsion order. It was leave or be killed. Too bad the Spaniards didn't provide trains for their removal. They might have been conned into thinking they were safe too.
The Church didn't care a whole lot about "proving" anything. These were kangaroo courts.

If it had not been for Don Yitzhak Abravanel and Don Avraham Senyor, the original edict was 100 percent conversion or death.... If you google the edict, you can find the eloquent letter Don Yitzhak Abravanel write to Fernando and Isabella imploring them to have mercy on the Jewish people.... The focus of the inquisition was on conversos rather than those that left in 1492... However the violence and murder of Jewish families began in the late 1300s and continued for centuries... The death toll is tremendous and spans many countries.... Don Yitzhak Abravanel was a direct descendent of David Ha Melech on the Paternal side and really came to the aid of all Sephardic Jews... He used all his wealth, influence in the Spanish court, and eloquence to save his Brothers & Sisters... I encourage you to read his letter in English or Spanish, his poetry reads like one would expect of a descendent of David, Like Tehillim....

That is inaccurate. The inquisition (Inquisitio Haereticae Pravitatis; Inquiry on Heretical Perversity) did not concern itself with the Jews, but with fallen catholics. Thus, the former Jews who previously converted to catholicism in order to stay in their beloved Spain or Portugal fell under the purview of the Inquisition. The Jews who remained loyal to yiddishkheit never did.
