At a National Cathedral service filled with dignitaries, Clinton called Inouye courageous without being sanctimonious, and a friend to both the former president and his wife, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

On the biggest and toughest moments for America, Clinton said Inouye was “telling us what we needed to know.”

During his time in office, Clinton presented Inouye, a war hero, with the Medal of Honor.

The Hawaii lawmaker was the second-longest serving senator in U.S. history. He died Monday of respiratory complications at age 88.

President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden were also speaking at the memorial.

toolee – keep calm. Clinton said Senator Inouye was “one of the most remarkable Americans I have ever known.” He was only talking about Americans and “one of the most” is a real politicians’s way of talking: it means absolutely zero.We all understand he thought Arafat ym”s was the most remarkable person he ever knew.
