The accident happened at around 5 a.m. on New Year’s Day at the No. 2 line station on 34th Street and Seventh Avenue. That’s one stop from where revelers gather in Times Square to see the ball drop.
Police say the victim was in her 20s. Her name wasn’t immediately released.
Subway deaths are common in the city. Last year, according a report in the Daily News, there was about a fatality a week.
But track deaths have been getting extra scrutiny in recent weeks after two men were shoved to their deaths in December.
Intoxication is a common cause for getting hit by a car, also. Don’t get drunk.
This is getting freaky.
most probably a drunken woman
Exactly how many more people will have to perish – by mistake or being pushed – in order to wake up & install gates or something of that kind. ??
Go after big gulps and metzitzeh Aunt Bloomy.
woops, bad place to fall
I agree that gates should be installed, but I also think that the person actually operating the train should slow down when approaching the subway station. Many subway drivers speed into the subway station and come to an abrupt halt, which is very dangerous.
This is very weird.
When I take the subway, I usually wait at least five minutes for a train.
Why does it seem that when ppl fall onto the tracks, there’s always a train coming almost immediately?
Is it a segula?
So where is the Yid who was saying how great it is in Times Square on New Year’s Eve now? Let him go tell his shtuss to the parents of this young girl! Nebech!
