Washington - Obama: Koch 'Was An Extraordinary Mayor'
Washington - President Barack Obama says Ed Koch was an “extraordinary mayor” and an “irrepressible character.”
The president and Michelle Obama offered thoughts and prayers Friday to Koch’s loved ones, and to all of New York City.
In a statement, Obama praised Koch’s role in overseeing New York’s economic renewal.
The president says Koch expanded affordable housing and extended opportunity to more of New York City’s residents.
He says Koch’s energy, personality and commitment enlivened public discourse ranging from civic issues to Israel.
