New York, NY - Top Doctor Sues Hospital For Age Discrimination.
New York, NY - A top doctor has filed a $60 million suit against Montefiore Medical Center, charging hospital administrators discriminated against him because of his age by cutting his once-$275,000 bonus to $100,000, court papers show.
Dr. Arnold Melman, 66, who’s been chairman of urology at the Bronx hospital since 1988, lists his “annualized salary” as $463,155, but says the “average total compensation” to the 16 active chairmen is $653,474, according to the lawsuit filed at Bronx Supreme Court.
Melman claims age discrimination is a pattern at the institution. He said that another department head was removed because hospital president Spencer Foreman told him he’s “65 and had a lot put away,” according to the lawsuit filed at Bronx Supreme Court. [nypost]
