“The entire city is grieving for this wonderful young couple whose lives were tragically cut short. My heart goes out to their families and for the entire Williamsburg community at this unspeakable tragedy. We are all praying for their newborn son, who miraculously survived the terrible crash and is now is critical condition.”
Councilmember Levin is calling on the Department of Transportation to immediately place a traffic signal at the intersection of Kent Avenue and Wilson Street, where the crash occurred, and to take all necessary steps to slow traffic along Kent Avenue.
Councilmember Levin is also asking the NYPD to continue to dedicate every resource necessary to apprehend the driver of the BMW who crashed into the livery car driving the Glaubers to the hospital. The driver of the BMW fled on foot from the crash scene and is still at large. “I know the NYPD is working tirelessly throughout the weekend to find and apprehend the driver of the BMW, who so heartlessly and cowardly fled the scene of the crash and is still at large,” Councilmember Levin said. “The entire community is appreciative of their continued efforts and ask them to not rest until the perpetrator is brought to justice.”
“Hit and run is a very seriously crime. If anyone has information on this crime, they absolutely must come forward to the Police Department immediately with that information,” Councilmember Levin added.
They were probably joyriding in the BMW they stole. A traffic light on a Sat night would not matter. Does Levin really think the NYPD isn’t going to go after them?
This is not the first accident at this location. It is very hard to make a turn from Wilson onto Kent. It urgently needs a traffic light!!! I hope the city listens.
No councilman not a traffic light, what we need is to get rid of the island which makes the two lanes in to one and impossible to see if a car is coming, this bike lane has caused our community to many accidents that we should look the other side … its time to get rid off the bike lanes and the island and make this side of Kent avenue a no standing zone …
Cheep politics, how about a light for next block and next block, actually how about a light at every intersection, plus a police officer at each and every intersection,
Finally, we are getting smarter,
All these politicians , Jewish , non-Jews, frum , not frum. This ridiculous politicians think we’re stupid, and we will love them for their stupid pandering.
The one thing they are good at is: Closing the barn door after the cow escapes, and flapping their gums loudly.
Anyways so really not sure if you know but its a real serious crime! oh and btw if you have info you must come forward to the police… what an idiot
i always enjoy riding down kent avenue without stopping every second block. there are no red lights from the BQE till Clymer and almost no school buses using that avenue.
what needs to be done is NOT installing traffic lights but rather stop the left turn onto kent, just as they did by Rodney.
Right because the driver would have listened to the red light even more than the stop sign he obviously ignored?!?!?!?
Now that I am looking at the pictures, it brings me back to an accident my family and I were involved in approx 22 years ago, going to b.p. to a vach nacht. We were riding in the exact same spot when a drag racer rammed our car from behind, and through some miracle we were all fine, except for some lacerations and concussions.
It was mamesh a nes and they even called in code 1, the people that were watching. The drivers escaped and we went on with our lives Boruch Hashem. There used to be a lot a drag racing going on there, because I lived on Hewes Street and used to hear them …sound came all the way to Bedford Avenue…Something has to be done to spare other parents and family such tragedies.
Of course, Hashem is in charge, as we could see, the driver came out alive…But we have to do our hishtadlos and try to nab these criminal elements from our midst.!!!!!
and how about the hundreds of drivers in wmsbg. and boro park who keep on talking on cell phones while driving..How many times do we see drivers chatting away and causinng major accidents in or communities..This time it was a goy who caused this horrific tragedy but why do we have to wait when r”l a heimishe yid will cause such accidents..
DMV can run the registration on the BMW and apprehend the owner as a person of interest, if the vehicle has not been reported stolen.
Who remembers “Bonfire of the Vanities”? Rich entitled yuppie hit and run a minority.
Way to make political points on their death. Yaasher Koach!!
You do NOT immediately put up a traffic signal. One signal can change traffic flow for several blocks in all directions. I would expect someone on the councilman’s staff to have told him that.
You CAN expedite an engineering study on a proposal for a new signal. If the mayor can stop attacking soda pitchers long enough, he can put someone on that task.
We don’t need a tragic light we need a stop sign, we need to shape up our selves, don’t u see that השם is sending such kind of story’s to shaken up the meet in the freezer, so lets take on ourselfs אהבה אחווה שלום ורעות בין אדם למקום ובין אדם לחבירו ובין איש לאשתו
“.., don’t u see that השם is sending such kind of story’s to shaken up the meet in the freezer, so lets take on ousvarfs…”
What are your talking about? What does this tragedy in willy have to do with meets in the freezer or fighting with oursvarfs? Sometimes its impossible to make out the menaing of the posting here. Stop looking to make this some kabbalistic or mystical event.
“Councilman Demands Immediate Traffic Signal At Tragic Crash Site”
How pathetic and how morally bankrupt of this Council Member Stephen Levin to try to make political capital out of the tragic deaths of this unfortunate couple.
Levin’s “forceful action” might have had more value had he demanded a traffic signal BEFORE the accident. Shutting the stable door *after* the horse has bolted is always easy, as Levin is so stupidly demonstrating to us.
Too late Council member…
DUI fatality does not look good and likely explains the H-A-R.
Sad.
Unfortunately, reckless driving, which is just as bad, if not worse than drunk driving, exists in all communities, and not just in Williamsburg, or Borough Park. In my community of Columbus, Ohio, there are very bad drivers, who engage in insane driving practices on a daily basis. For example, I’ve observed drivers who will intentionally back out of their driveways or parking spots, and will not stop or yield the right of way; drivers who will tailgate a car in front of them, at very high speeds; driver who will pass a car in front of them on the freeway with inches to spare; drivers who will choose not to have their headlights on, no matter how dark it is outside; drivers who will drive with cut out mufflers, which make a very loud, grating sound; drivers who don’t understand that a stop sign, means to stop; drivers who will drive with cracked windshields, and cars which are ready for the junkyard; drivers who will intentionally speed up to prevent other drivers from legally passing them; drivers who will cut off eight lanes of traffic, when exiting from a gas station, because they are too lazy to drive around the street.
Buch of mind players , all these politicians if only to rid ouself of these reptilian cohorts and how different a world it would be
