Borough Park, Brooklyn NY – Off-year elections sometimes suffer from a lack of attention, but one local race this year demands the attention of any voter who supports good government and rejects the cynical back-room deal-making that has long characterized the judicial section process in Brooklyn.

In the Fifth Civil Court District — which covers Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, Windsor Terrace, Borough Park, Sunset Park and the southernmost part of Park Slope — Democratic nominee Noach Dear is so lacking in judicial qualifications and temperament that civic-minded residents must make time on Tuesday to think really hard what to, because Dear is so unqualified — and his past so filled with ethical lapses and lack of leadership of the crown heights riots, the race has received enough attention to suggest that sanity may indeed prevail.

During his 18 years in the pre–term-limited Council, and in his unsuccessful runs for Congress and state Senate, Dear has shown himself to be ill-tempered and ethically challenged.

Although in the helm of this blog we never support candidates, but Noach Dear is without question and beyond doubt a candidate to be examined to any civil minded voter before you cast your vote.[Brooklyn Paper Editorial- VIN]

I thought that a judge isn’t supposed to express favoritism to one side over another (not to say that yiddishe b”d’im are any better)not a place for a frum yid

    Noach, you are a hero!

Look at the hatred here. It is amazing. I believe that there are some political persons; in power right now that are petrified of you. Well, they should!

You are the one that intervened on behalf of my son when he was falsely arrested; you are the one that when corrupted politicians won’t do anything (only if you donate to their campaigns) you would do anything for a fellow citizen. You have a heart of gold.

You will win; you will bring order to this madness! We can’t wait to call you Honorable Judge Dear.

Regarding Shoprite, He is the one that changed that the traffic should go to 50th Street instead of going straight out to McDonald.

Thank you Noach for ruining are street (50th St) and causing major traffic backups.

Now they are talking about building a 12 story building close to Shoprite, I will be honest that I don’t realy care about building housing on that site, but that tall and PLEASE no commerical.

And before they approve anything like this they should change the traffic pattern in the area.

I am glad to see that there are people within our community that realize he is not a qualified candidate. One who has never practiced a day in his life law cannot and should not be allowed to obtain a position of judgeship. Just because he is a YID does not make him qualified.

He claims he discusses and takes into account what the Godel HaDor say. My question is, how come the Godol HaDor have not helped him clean up the mess he has gotten himself into in his own private life. He claims to the world that he does everything through the Rabbi’s, that is NOT TRUE. Even on the home front he lives a lie. Noach Dear is a two faced hippocrate.

Vote for anyone but NOT for Noach Dear.

All the comments here extolling his kindness do NOT give a good argument for voting him as judge.

Moshe, the lulav story shows how much he cares and tries to help fellow yidden- I believe you- but this does NOT make him qualified to be a judge. Hey, I’m sure many many people would go out of their way and do many things to help yidden but this does make them qualified to be a judge either.

All of us have good and bad stories about him. He went behing everyones back and pushed for Shoprite to open with a huge Kosher dapartment. Did he care that Glatt Mart was hurt? Did he care that Shimon Hersh eventually had to close? He took money away from Frum Yiden and gave it to Goyim.

It would seem that he caters to the biggest contributer, no matter how it falls out.

He does not deserve my vote.

OK wise-guy annonymous 1:46, he “gradeh” came by and BOUGHT a lulav that year (I don’t know where he got the esrogm from). IN fact if I remember correctly he bought two or three. Of course I did give him a break (AND I made sure that he did NOT have to wait to get served), but NO it wasn’t free. (Some guy are so cynical it’s just amazing to me.)

I remember the night of the killing of Gidion Bush. He didn’t even go over and speak to people that saw what happened. he right away went over to the police and then started telling everyone to go home that we are wrong and the police is right.

He had the chutzpah to goup to the Noveminsker and ask him to come out to tell the growing crowd that they should go home. B”H the Noveminsker told Noah/Noach to go home.

I will always remember the look on his face when he came out of the Noveminskers house. He thought he has the gedolim in his pocket.

It’s time for him to get himself a job and leave politics because he always made a chillul hashem.

I don’t live in BP so I can’t vote for Noach BUT if I did here’s why I WOULD VOTE FOR HIM.
When 9/11 happened it was Tues. and Rosh HaShuna was exactly one week away. I was expecting a shipment of 20,000 Lulavim and was told that ALL SHIPMENTS will be held up i.e. will wait for TWO TO THREE WEEKS before being released. This was a major problem not just for me but for every single importer of Lulavim. In other words, there was not going to be ANY lulavim allowed in before Sukkos. I knew the problem right away and on Sept. 12 called Noach. THAT SAME DAY he was on the phone to the Secretary of Transportation to work on the problem. AND HE TOOK CARE OF IT. This was one of the few shipments that were released immediately due to the urgency etc.
This year we had a problem with a shipment of esrogim. Again I called Noach. Please not, he is no longer an “active” politician (i.e. he holds no current position). Yet he called me back right away, gave me his cell phone number and said I could call him DAY OR NIGHT. (OK, I know he has voice mail.) He worked on the problem and contacted anyone and everyone including foreign ambassadors and airling C.E.O.s etc. to try to solve the problem etc.
He doesn’t know me and I am not from BP yet he tried to help me and do whatever he could to solve my problem.
The bottom line: HE WANTS TO HELP PEOPLE AND WILL DO WHATEVER HE CAN.
What more can you ask for????
He has MY VOTE (if I could).
    Git Voch.

Regardless of our opinions of this man, the question is should a person who is a lawyer but has never practiced law be a judge?

He may end up being like Abe Fortas or Judge Crater.

Would you like to have a doctor who never practiced medicine make medical decisions about you?

“has always been Sho-al Etzah from the gedolei hador.”

Always ? For ever move he ever made ? So he has a hashgocho from gedoylim on the campaign finance and other violations ?

Also, it’s one thing to be shoel eitzah and another thing to follow every eitzah that he gets. Not necessarily the same.

Mordechai Avigdor sugggests that since Noach Dear was a shoel eitza from gedolei hador that we should vote for him. As a sitting justice in a secular civil court in New York, are we to expect Dear to check in with gedolim when he’s stumped on a complicated civil matter? Unfortunately Dear is in way over his head and public scrutiny of his cases will cause him serious problems.

this post is a disgrace. ND has made a career of helping other people. Don’t like his personality? that’s your opinion.

Noach was a fierce fighter for frum interests all his years on the council and deserved your votes for congress, and the then when he ran unsuccessfully for state senate.

The fact that he lost the state senate election was a horrible chillul hashem, because he had many black supporters who wanted a fighter like ND in their corner.

Instead, we all have the incompetent kevin parker doing nothing for anyone.

Personally, i once worked for ND and can tell you first hand that he has some serious personality problems. but that doesn’t take away from the fact that he is deserving of the frum vote and anyone who says otherwise, especially in this public forum is making a terrible mistake.

worst of all Noach dear .
supported David Dinkins for reelection against Giuliani
    after the crown heights riots
Korean boycott as Yiddish blood was being spilled on the streets of new york because he was given to be chairman of the city council trans. committee
    and this dummy is busy
    with loshen hura.
and before i forget he also supported the garbage incinerator in wilamsburg against the pleas of the whole community
so everybody knows how Noach is loyal too
so let him go ask for votes from All Sharpton Sonny Carson Maddox and Mason.

    Say no to Noach
    The Brooklyn Paper

Off-year elections sometimes suffer from a lack of attention, but one local race this year demands the attention of any voter who supports good government and rejects the cynical back-room deal-making that has long characterized the judicial section process in Brooklyn.

In the Fifth Civil Court District — which covers Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, Windsor Terrace, Borough Park, Sunset Park and the southernmost part of Park Slope — Democratic nominee Noach Dear is so lacking in judicial qualifications and temperament that civic-minded residents must make time on Tuesday to go to the polls and vote for his worthy opponent, James McCall.

Generally, a ham sandwich listed on the Democratic line would beat Mother Teresa running as a Republican in a Brooklyn judicial race. So even though McCall is qualified to be a judge and Dear is not — and even though McCall’s record suggests an upright man of integrity while Dear has been anything but — McCall’s candidacy remains a long shot.

But because Dear is so unqualified — and his past so filled with ethical lapses and gay-baiting — the race has received enough attention to suggest that sanity may indeed prevail.

During his 18 years in the pre–term-limited Council, and in his unsuccessful runs for Congress and state Senate, Dear has shown himself to be ill-tempered and ethically challenged.

Much of the attention in this race focuses on Dear’s past comments about gays (whom he derided as practicing a “deviant behavior”).

But there are other reasons to say no to Dear. As the Village Voice has reported in a series of articles, Dear has had to give back campaign donations, pay fines and even refund a phony salary to a Jewish charity during his undistinguished career.

The Voice also reported that Dear’s campaign is receiving handsome donations from the taxi industry — a business that he is supposed to be regulating as a commissioner on the city’s Taxi and Limousine Commission.

Dear has had ample opportunity to refute those charges and show that he has altered his opinions about gays, but he has declined to comment throughout the race — a reprehensible lack of openness from a candidate.

(That said, Dear’s reluctance to speak publicly has had an ancillary benefit: It has allowed us to see him driving the wrong way down a one-way street to get away from WCBS-2’s Andrew Kirtzman earlier this year.)

Meanwhile, Dear’s surrogates — Borough President Markowitz and the borough’s Democratic boss, Assemblyman Vito Lopez — insist that Dear is a changed man.

Dear may have convinced Marty Markowitz that he’ll be competent and fair, but the City Bar Association didn’t buy it, declaring him “not approved” as a judge, in part because of his lack of legal background.

The good news is that voters do have a choice.

Unlike Dear, McCall has been traveling the district to tell voters just what kind of judge he would be. Several conversations with McCall, who is currently a court attorney for a sitting Civil Court judge, have convinced us that he would serve the public well if elected.

And unlike Dear, the City Bar Association rated him “approved.”

McCall is certainly better than the alternative, which is why we strongly endorse him for the Fifth District Civil Court seat.

How can he be qualified as anyone else running when all the other candidates have practiced law at least for a few years while Noach hasn’t practiced one day in his life. Does he even know how to read a case anymore? Does he even know how to research the law? And last but not least, could he even say that there is at least one area of law that he considers himself to be familiar with?

[Former NYC Council memeber] Noach Dear intervened on behalf of the establishment where I was employed [approx. 10 Yrs. ago]with the PVB. When the threat of towing all our co.’s vehicles was imminent (Due to unauthorized use of the Co.’s registration/s, and subsequent running up 6,000 Dollars worth of tickets), he {Noach Dear) received a 1 Month delay, giving us a chance to clear up the problem.

I personally don’t think that he is qualified but then again, that is because I know who he is. Who says that his opponent is qualified. You just don’t know them personally.

I think that there are many of these so called civil judges that aren’t qualified. If you were ever to court, you will know what I mean.

As an example, look at traffic court. None of them are real judges but can convict you and make you pay a fine and higher insurance premiums.

Dear didn’t win the primary by too much – maybe around 1300 votes. He got about 3600 votes.

So it’s possible that he wouldn’t win the general election. Who knows.

I think that since he supposedly did so much for the klal in the past, he should retire now to take it easy.

Dear’s willingness and ability to help others is a positive trait that must be taken into account. Even while busy with his own campaign, he made time to help others in need – because he cared! There are enough people out there in public positions who sit in their leather chairs enjoying their titles but don’t care about the people that voted them into their positions and what they can do to help them. Dear is a guy who’s proven to the frum community time and again, his willingness to help. Please take this into consideration on Tuesday, November 6.
