Speaker Council Christine Quinn arrives at the residence of the Zilberstein family to pay a shiva call on Mar. 7 2013. Quinn is being escorted by Ezra Friedlander to their apartment where the shiva visit took place. Photo: Heshy Rubinstein from Dee Voch.Williamsburg, NY – An emotional Christine Quinn was among the steady stream of visitors who paid a shiva call this evening to the parents of Raizy Glauber, 21, who was tragically killed on Saturday night around midnight along with her 21-year-old husband, Nachman, after a hit-and-run driver plowed into the Glauber’s livery car. The couple was laid to rest on Monday afternoon.
Mrs. Glauber, who was 24 weeks pregnant, had become concerned about the state of her unborn child, prompting the young couple to go the hospital on Saturday night. Their car service was en route to a Cobble Hill hospital when it was violently struck by Julio Acevedo. Emergency personnel managed to deliver the Glauber’s newborn, but the baby later succumbed to its injuries and was buried near its parents. The 44-year-old Acevedo surrendered to police today.
According to an eyewitness who observed the interaction between City Council Speaker Quinn and Raizy’s mother, Mrs. Zilberstein, the presumptive mayoral candidate said she had come to convey her sympathies and prayers.
In a photo obtained exclusively by VINNews, a visibly shaken Quinn is seen embracing Glauber’s grieving mother. (Out of respect for the family, VINNews has chosen not to post the photograph). During the visit, Mrs. Zilberstein expressed her faith in God and told the Speaker she accepts “God’s plan.â€
In an interview near the site of the crash following her shiva visit, Quinn said, “It’s just so terribly sad, such a tragic loss. This lovely couple and their baby and I just really wanted to come on behalf of myself, but [also] all of my colleagues in the Council, and all of the New Yorkers we represent to share with the family and with the mother how sorry we are and how we’re thinking and praying for all of them – how really the entire City is thinking of and praying for all of them….â€
Quinn also said she is working on getting a much-needed and long-awaited traffic signal installed on Kent Avenue, the site of the accident. Watch the video below:

I always liked her as a politician. I was at a breakfast a few years ago where she was the main speaker & I was very impressed. I can see how she would be sincerely moved by this tragedy.
By the way, the baby succumbed to HIS injuries & was buried near HIS parents, not its. He was a human being who never had a chance at life. It's not right to refer to the child as an "it." Please change your wording.

Politicians are not supposed to go to shiva calls or funerals of a citizen within their districts....They only run to hospitals when a cop gets shot or killed....Take an example how Rabbi Niederman attacked commissioner Kelly for having the driver out on the street..Kelly is NOT the judge and he never released him from custody...
If a politician visits families in a tragedy they can get screamed and blamed for something its not in their control...Christie Quinn did the right thing to go pay a shiva visit but no one would blame her for anything in this accident .....

Well said. This baby, even under secular law, was born alive. His, as well as his young parents, was the ultimate tragedy

To # 5,,,, Yossi
I respect you for your thoughts,,, however !!!!
1) I am not sure what "supposed to" means
Politicians to things as ambiguously possible for their own right and self credibility. I do not think any elaboration is needed at all.
if they find that, going to a Shiva call will do them good, they will,
look at all the other politicians that join local functions, parades etc,,,
How many times has the Mayor gone out to private ppl to show respect and support, Yossi are kidding me,,
2) my initial intent was,,,, in general we havent heard anything from the "big shots" haha I guess Bloomberg knows well it is his last time in office, so why bother,, he doesn't need our votes
And last,,,, blogs are made to voice our editorial comments, thoughts and feelings. thats what makes this enjoyable,,
At times the comments are more interesting then the article itself,,
thank you for yours
bless you sir
