    Um,

Torah is wonderful, but HaShem is with all Jews who observe Torah and it is not for men to schedule the comings and goings if HaShem.

In the holocaust, countless ehrlich yidden including great Torah scholars lost their lives. HaShem was present but allowed it to happen for reasons we do not understand. In 1948, 1956, 1967 and 1972 HaShem supported Israel and helped defeat the enemies of the Jewish state. In 2002, hundreds of Jewish lives were lost to Arab terrorists. This was enabled by the Oslo “peace” process and it could not have happened without the support of the Chareidi political parties. One thing that seems to make no difference to the safety of the Jewish people is the number of men spending their entire days in yeshiva learning Torah. It did not keep anyone safe in Europe, was pretty much nonexistent in the early years of the State of Israel and does not contribute to the safety of Israel now. Rav Ovadiah is a great Talmud Chochum, but not a great general. He has done a great job in marketing Torah to Israelis. That is a great legacy. But Rav Ovadiah should be leaving the political and military decisions to the people who can best make them. And for the Torah scholars he should help form a transparent and honest way to determine which 1800 boys receive the army deferral that the government is instituting. That would also be a great legacy.

I don’t understand why Shmuel Hanovi, Shaull Hamelech, Dovid, & Shlomo, never mentioned one word about sitting in Beis Medrash and learning. Nothing what-so-ever is mentioned in the Pesukim.

if Torah is the oxygen that keeps us alive, and i believe it does , does my torah learning and observance count too?.
#2 it doesnt say this in the pesukim cuz this concept had not yet been invented. In fact this concept never existed and according to my mother and my inlaws who lived and learned from their grandparents in the alte heim this concept didnt exist.

To give you some background my ancestors werent just stam yidden . My mother as a child remebers the Gerrer Rebbe staying at her father`s home and my father Z`l remembered the Beltze Rebbe .
This full time learning for everyone is a current phenomena. Completely different than jewish life for hundreds and hundreds of years. In reality it is these ” full time learners” that are really the new orthodox.

#4 Whenever someone disagrees with the current status the comment is made “they dont value torah.or are anti torah.” thats nonsense and agravating. A slap in the face . Truth is i am told that my torah doesnt count. its only their torah that counts. We disagree because i dont believe that anyone and everyone that says they want to learn full time and dodge all responsability should without any qualifications be entitllled to do so. AND then i am told that i must work pay taxes and do my duty civiliy or army so that these full time learners can get all the benifits shirk their duty.and instead of having any gratitude they hold me and my torah in disgust. very lomdish dont you think. The result is a whole segment of the population feels used like a dirty shmata..
It would also help clarify things if some of these ungrateful learners would spend just a few minutes learning how to reed and rite.

I think that the yeshiva should drop the money demand from the government, then the secular part of the new gov will drop their demand that chariedem should join the army. I can understand the frustration from the anti chariedem, according to them the chariedem don’t offer anything to their state, no army, not working, they have 3X or more the size families, and just a huge burden for them, and always demanding not to give up an inch from the occupied territories, so they decided let the chariedem understand how the gov works and then you’ll have different views how to handle the occupation, so my guess is that if the chariedem will just stop demanding the gov to subsidize their yeshivas, then they have hope that they’ll stop their demand chariedem in the army.

We do not know H”KBH’s chesbon. Look at the Yeshiva in Chevron in 1929. One thing is sure. Hashem is more likely to protect us when we are one unit. Everyone on all sides should be trying to come to some accommodation so that each group appreciates and works together with the next one. We don’t have to all be the same, but we have to all be civil.

You can learn & be in the army, just like you can work & be in the army or work & learn. The Rambam worked, Abarbanel worked & rabbi Yomtov worked as well & I’m sure many others. To those who think you can ONLY learn, do you think these holy men are beneath you?

You are all mentioning Pesukim in Tehilim, which most Meforshim hold that it was put together during the period of the Second Bayis. (read Kapital “Al Na’harois Bovel”).
Some of its Kapitlach were credited to Dovid, and some to Osaf and Bnei Korach.
