DNAINFO.com (http://bit.ly/17sRn4J) is reporting that Sarede Switzer, the founder of Crown Heights Fitness, says she began streamlining traditional yoga studies to accommodate Orthodox Jews a few years back, and that she is now “inundated” with requests for both men’s and women’s classes.
Switzer said she has made yoga accessible to the Orthodox by renaming workout terminology, adjusting dress codes, and holding same sex classes.
Switzer said her new “sanitized” style has become so popular that she is now branching out, setting up instructional branches in New York, Toronto, and Israel.

It’s been shown that yoga isn’t really cut out for men. Women are generally more flexible than men and when a man starts doing it he hurts himself. Also theirs always that competitive edge that men have which doesn’t have a place in de-stress yoga. Otherwise I’m very happy for them!
I’ve been taking yoga for years and never knew any term or pose had to be sanitized. I guess I’ve been sinning weekly….now I feel guilty.
Yoga is fun and great exercise, mind & body, but if anyone Frum does it, they should understand that it is Hinduism 100%. Thousands of Americans for the past 50 years have taken yoga and many end up on the Hindu or Buddhist derech. So let’s be real about what yoga is…
males and females can both do yoga. the trick is not to do too much too fast.
My wife was trained as a yoga teacher by a dati women who lives in Eretz Yisrael. You *can* practice yoga without engaging in avoda zara.
