The NEW YORK DAILY NEWS (http://nydn.us/14hfGUm) is reporting that the study matched up the costs of over 50,000 “goods” and “services” in 307 U.S. cities to arrive at its findings.
A project manager for the council said the basic principle of “supply and demand” is what drives costs up, and that he skyrocketing prices of homes and apartments in the New York boroughs “impact” cost structures “across the board.”
It is the sixth straight year Manhattan and Brooklyn have finished #1 and #2.
Queens finished sixth, behind Honolulu, San Francisco, and San Jose.
Manhattan high prices are obvious but Brooklyn is probably skewed by the large frum communities and the outrageous prices we pay for our requirements
If you’ll vote Republican, feel free to come on down to Texas. You can buy housing in my neighborhood for about $55 per square foot and walk to 4 different shuls.
Yeah, but it’s not so bad if you can get Section 8, Food Stamps, Medicaid, and all the other government handouts… Too bad for the middle class that has to work for a living.
Theres no incentive to work here, the benefits you get for being poor far beat the benefits of working for that 50k taxed and that leaves u penniless and no help from anyone
Did they calculate parking tickets? That is a staple expense inflicted on anyone who owns a car.
Las Vegas is a huge barga
Las Vegas is a huge bargain at the moment
this report doesn’t take into account yeshiva tuition, kosher food, summer camps etc.which are relatively cheaper in Brooklyn than in other communities.
The city is a mecca for newly graduated college students whose family have enough money to support them .The working stiffs cant afford to live here any more as the paycheck cant cover the expenses
So there is your proof that houses in Flatbush and Boro Park are more expensive than in the 5T.
I am tired of people complaining about the high cost of living in NY. If you can’t afford it, MOVE. Stop complaining and whining. There are so many nicer places to live that have lower prices, nice shuls, great schools. Oh, and the kids can play outside in actual yards! (and I am not talking about the 2 by 2 dirt thing that NYers seem to call a lawn…)
There is a whole country out there. I am sure you can find a place you like better than NY. I lived in NY and HATED it and was glad to leave when I could!
