An Israeli court instructed police last month to stop detaining women for performing religious rituals and wearing garb that Orthodox Judaism reserves for men.
The “Women of the Wall” movement has been trying for decades to break Orthodox control on prayer at the Western Wall, one of Judaism’s holiest sites.
Orthodox rabbis, who control Israeli religious institutions, argued the women break regulations forbidding religious ceremonies that go against “local custom.”
The Justice Ministry said Tuesday that Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein would not appeal.
In another victory for liberal Judaism, Israel’s prime minister has signaled he will support a new, mixed-gender prayer area at the site.
OK. The issue is now settled. The courts have ruled and the police have said they will mobilize as much force as necessary to protect these women against the assaults from the zealots who have physically thrown chairs at them and engage in other violent acts in prior incidents. Hopefully, they will throw some of these thugs in jail and let them rot. Whatever we may think it the correct hashkafah for women davening at the kosel, its not their business as long as they do so peacefully. A woman standing in ezras hanashimn doing exactly what a man is doing 50 feet away can no longer be harrassed or detained.
We have to share me’aras hamachpela with the Muslims, so I guess we also have to share the kosel with these people.
With so many self-hating Jews in the world, we have a lot more serious problems than a bunch of women who want to worship Hashem in their own way at the Kotel. Where do the zealots get the authority to attack them? When Miriam took a tambourine and led women in a shir to Hashem at the Yam Suf, did anyone try to stop her?
Guys, The kosel is out land! Anyone who is Naive enough to agree with the Reshaem is probably as for G-D as these people!
They are sending the country to the moon with their hate for Chredim by makeing the kosel mixed and the yeshiva bochurim go to the army and schools do secular lessons! We must hope for a refuah i can think of a million things we had better be doing then making comment about Rabbanim as seen in this post
“jerusalem-an-open-letter-to-the-woman-of-the-wall-how-about-some-respect”
Lets pull ourselfs together not by Lashon Horah & comments oozing with hate!
Let’s go to the “mixed gender” area and erect a mechitzah! It’s our right!
These women are not liberal. They are Permissive AND Anarchists. Liberalism only gives the foolish crackpots the right to be crackpots.
I understand that woman would like to pray and the part is beautiful.
What I have trouble understanding is, those woman who claim that they only want to pray while wearing in such a holy place Beach acceptable clothing. I’d suggest for them to do all the מצוות woman are obligated to do first, then talk about accepting more religious performances.
A mixed gender area would be perfect
for these cranks, they certainly are pretty mixed up about their gender. A woman who needs to do “man things” to feel like an equal, has an unhealthy mind.
