Republican Bryant made his initial remarks Tuesday in Washington during an education forum hosted by The Washington Post, and he elaborated on them later in an interview with The Associated Press

The newspaper reports (http://wapo.st/134DYMc) that Bryant and two other governors were asked how America became “so mediocre” in education results.

Bryant said: “I think both parents started working. The mom got in the work place.”

In a phone interview with The Associated Press, Bryant said having both parents working outside the home puts pressure on families, and that affects education.

Bryant’s wife, Deborah, has worked outside the home for more than 38 years, including while their two children were growing up.

That is only part of the story, the other part is when the American family went from being a two parent family to everything but a two parent family. In the rush to make everything okay (except for the traditional two parent family) children became a charm bracelet. When you’re in the mood you take care of it otherwise it is thrown by the wayside.

Dumb… It’s not that parents are out of the home but that they don’t pay attention to their kids anymore? Do you know where your kids are all the time? Make sure thyr do all of their homework? Who their friends are?
If no one is home for a majority of the time that the kids are there, then we have a problem. Parents can work-just figure out what is best for your family.

This is definitely true. that said, with the expenses facing families most people have no choice.

Ah Mississippi, a state that ranks dead last in median household income, per capita income, and relative gdp, 47th out of 50 in unemployment, and 48th out of 50 in educational outcomes, has a governor lecturing us about the ills of American education. He ought to consider looking inward and asking himself why a state run entirely by his party is such a failure.

A late Rav, explained to me 50 yrs ago…….In the past a man worked 12/15 hrs a day, 5/6 days a wk. The mother stayed home and nurtured the children, and everyone sat at the table as a family and ate.
Now we have progress, we fly to Eng., in 2 hrs, go to the moon, etc. the children, and everyone sat at the table as a family and ate.
Today it takes 2 people working the same amount of time, and no one is in the home minding the children.
What we have to decide, is, has progress been worth all that we have lost?
