Ira Rennert has applied for permission to add a pilates studio, spa bath, sauna and steam shower, and three bathrooms to one of his pool houses. They’re on his 63-acre oceanfront estate near Southampton.
Newsday (http://bit.ly/11YebJT ) cites a zoning variance application that says the pool house currently has only one bathroom. The other closest bathroom is in the main house. It’s “over a 200-foot, several-minute, indirect walking distance away.”
The 64,389-square-foot home was built in the 1990s despite neighbors’ protests.
Rennert’s attorney expects the issue to come up at a Sagaponack (sag-uh-PAHN’-ihk) village zoning hearing in August or September.
The junk bond investor’s net worth is listed by Forbes at $6.5 billion.
Nebach 200 feet away, such a hard life
But making an eruv is a problem.
This happens to be a frum guy, that gives zillions to all kinds of tzedoka, so “kol hakovod” to him
Why do we have to know about this? Who cares what this millionaire does on his own property. Let him live in peace. Its hardly going to affect anyone at all, never-mind all the busy-bodies in Brooklyn. There are enough legal/illegal extensions/conversions in your own neighborhoods if you are that type to care.
i now him wel hes a big bal tzidaka i was by this house its beutiful
The land is so vast why are the neighbors complaining; could it be jealousy or anti-semitism. I believe it is the first. Live and let live as long as you are not encroaching on my property.
The fact that this doesn’t bother the commenters above tells you how far we have strayed from the concept of “hatznei’a leches im elokecho”.
I don’t judge this particular person’s choices and don’t know whether I’d do any better in withstanding that particular kind of nisayon, but one should frankly find more wrong hashkafically with the picture above than with the color of a young girls dress or the exact length of her skirt.
Our generation truly has no idea what the word “tz’niyus” means anymore.
The day that we see frumme speeches and books decrying ostentatious houses the way we see them proliferating on the subject of women’s clothing, we’ll know that we’ve turned a corner.
From the air this compound looks very ugly. In fact it bears a striking resemblence to the former Branch Davidion Compound in Waco, Texas.
At first I thought this a prison, or at least that’s what it looks like from the air.
As they say: money can’t buy taste.
