Sagaponack, NY - The billionaire owner of one of the largest mansions in America wants to expand his Hamptons estate.

Ira Rennert has applied for permission to add a pilates studio, spa bath, sauna and steam shower, and three bathrooms to one of his pool houses. They’re on his 63-acre oceanfront estate near Southampton.

Newsday (http://bit.ly/11YebJT ) cites a zoning variance application that says the pool house currently has only one bathroom. The other closest bathroom is in the main house. It’s “over a 200-foot, several-minute, indirect walking distance away.”

The 64,389-square-foot home was built in the 1990s despite neighbors’ protests.

Rennert’s attorney expects the issue to come up at a Sagaponack (sag-uh-PAHN’-ihk) village zoning hearing in August or September.

The junk bond investor’s net worth is listed by Forbes at $6.5 billion.

Why do we have to know about this? Who cares what this millionaire does on his own property. Let him live in peace. Its hardly going to affect anyone at all, never-mind all the busy-bodies in Brooklyn. There are enough legal/illegal extensions/conversions in your own neighborhoods if you are that type to care.

The land is so vast why are the neighbors complaining; could it be jealousy or anti-semitism. I believe it is the first. Live and let live as long as you are not encroaching on my property.

The fact that this doesn't bother the commenters above tells you how far we have strayed from the concept of "hatznei'a leches im elokecho".

I don't judge this particular person's choices and don't know whether I'd do any better in withstanding that particular kind of nisayon, but one should frankly find more wrong hashkafically with the picture above than with the color of a young girls dress or the exact length of her skirt.

Our generation truly has no idea what the word "tz'niyus" means anymore.

The day that we see frumme speeches and books decrying ostentatious houses the way we see them proliferating on the subject of women's clothing, we'll know that we've turned a corner.

So why must this frum guy, cater to the all the sterotypes of Yidden by living in such an ostantatious mansion. Yidden do not do themselves or other Yidden any favors by creating such animosity amoungst our gentile neighbors.

I don't agree.
I don't think we have to run around trying to please everyone around us.
If they don't like you, they will always find something about you that bothers them.

apparently you live in the jungle, or a cave, if you do not see other Jews showing off with their cars, clothing, houses and jewelry. And he doesn't "have to", as you put it, he wants to enjoy himself and he is entitled to.

Also. learn how to spell.

Really??
I happen to be very familiar with the "tzedokah" world and while he does give to a few institutions, together with a passion for donating Seder Torahs (from one to a few a year) I'm not aware of philanthropy on a level commensurate to his wealth. Not even close.
He doesn't owe me or anybody anything I hope he enjoys his new additions to his pool houses etc. but dont justify it with fairy tales

From the air this compound looks very ugly. In fact it bears a striking resemblence to the former Branch Davidion Compound in Waco, Texas.

it's funny, "godol Hador", that you think you know enough to criticize someone else's tzdakah, especially when he may not be such a fame hog as you and could give tens of millions quietly.

You, on the other hand, take credit for titles you have no entitlement to, so who are you to c riticize anyone?

as they also say, money can't buy saichel, as you appear to have very little of either.

If you can't tell the difference between one of the biggest mansion in the USA, and think it is a prison, what does that say about you? I mean, besides jealous, jealous, jealous!

Well said sir! Also, must be quite a long walk for him to get to a shul on Shabbos. Or does this monstrasity include a built in shul with visiting ruv and chazan.

Actually, I think from the air it looks more like a SHLUCHT HOISE than a prison. If I were a neighbor of this place, I would also not like it. Reminds me to a lesser degree in Brooklyn where the SPOILED children of rich tatees come to a nice frum block, buy a nice house tear it down and then proceed to build a mcmansion to shtoop it in the faces of the neighbors. Just because you can build a big house doesn't mean that you should.

"well said"? seriously?

why is it your business whether he goes to shul on Shabbos? If I were you, I'd worry less about his frumkeit and more about your atrocious spelling and grammar skills.

a SHLUCHT HOISE? with gardens, a swimming pool and tennis courts?

I think you and #19 share much in common, including poor recognition skills and incredible jealousy.

looks like you're jealous of Rennert, and jealous of your "SPOILED children of rich tatees", as you put it, who are no comparison to Ira Rennert.

If you think people build big houses in order to "shtoop" it in the faces of their neighbors (and you should find out what "shtoop" means), then you're projecting your own insecurities onto them.

And if you think Rennert built his house because he needs to impress his neighbors, I can assure you that he couldn't care less what his neighbors think.

It's very sad that you have to try to insult his house to make yourself feel better. You WISH you lived in a shlucht hoise like this.

take your petty jelousies elsewhere and do tshuva instead of trying to criticize your betters.
