Over the course of the last decade, the Education Ministry and the Culture and Sport Ministry have transferred between NIS 300,000 and 700,000 to a non-government organization known as The Temple Institute. Just last year, the group received NIS 282,000 from the Education Ministry and another NIS 134,000 from the Culture Ministry.

“The Institute is dedicated to every aspect of the Biblical commandment to build the Holy Temple of G-d on Mount Moriah in Jerusalem,” the group’s website reads. “Our short-term goal is to rekindle the flame of the Holy Temple in the hearts of mankind through education. Our long-term goal is to do all in our limited power to bring about the building of the Holy Temple in our time.”

Anyone browsing the group’s website could see images of models of the Third Temple, with the Muslim holy places like the Dome of the Rock and the Al-Aqsa Mosque conspicuously absent from these illustrations.

Army Radio also discovered that aside from subsidies, the state also permits young women who opt to forgo compulsory military service to perform national service as unpaid tour guides and instructors with the institute. The women are also sent to schools and kindergartens around the country to speak about their experiences as well as the educational programs the institute has to offer.

The Education Ministry responded to the Army Radio report, saying: “The nonprofit meets criteria for receiving subsidies that go toward instructing students who visit the institute, and this has been the case for over 10 years now.”

“The Temple Institute deals with research, and it is supported by the ministry in accordance with professional criteria that has nothing to do with directly supporting the individual who heads it,” a Culture and Sport Ministry spokesperson said in response.

“Thus far we have found nothing that would raise suspicions of incitement or anything unusual as it relates to the temple. In light of the Army Radio report, it is the ministry’s intention to bring this matter to the attention of our legal department.”

“For over 25 years the Temple Institute has stood at the forefront of research, education and preparation towards the time of the rebuilding of the Holy Temple,” a spokesperson for the Temple Institute told The Jerusalem Post. “The Institute’s efforts have been recognized and awarded by Israel’s Ministry of Education. Its trailblazing educational materials and scholarly publications have revolutionized these difficult areas of Torah knowledge for young and old alike.”

“Over one million people from all over the world, of every background and religion, have visited the Institute’s exhibition located in Jerusalem’s Old City,” the spokesperson said. “The Temple Institute’s website is the most popular and educational web site on the subject of the Holy Temple in the world.”

“The rebuilding of the Holy Temple, called by the prophet Isaiah a ‘house of prayer for all nations,’ is a positive commandment, and the vision of the Temple’s rebuilding, which will usher in an unparalleled era of world peace and harmony, is the central theme of the entire Torah. The Temple Institute is proud to represent the concept which has been heartfelt prayer of the Jewish people for two millennia.”

Makes sense, because they are also funding a Muslim group called the “The Dome of Rock Brotherhood”

These people are crackpots. Jews are far too fractured to have a Bais Hamikdosh. For every Rav who approves of it there will be 10 who will say that it is assur. We had our chances 2000 years ago and we blew it. Now we will have to wait for Moshiach. Enough with the nonsense.

Come again? We were taught all our lives that the Third Bais Hamikdosh will be built by Hashem Himself! And the way we are acting towards one another–Ashkenazi/ Sefardi conflict, conflict among various sects of Chassidim, conflicts among factions within the same sect of Chassidim, Chassidim who are patronizing Ahmadinejad and his ilk, Litvish versus Chassidish, Chassidish versus Litvish, Secular versus non secular, Dati Leumi versus Chareidim. How will Hashem bring the Bais Hamikdosh? As my mother, tzum gitte langa yar– a Holocaust survivor says–How can Moshiach come if we fight so much with each other? We don’t need the goyim to do this–we are doing it to ourselves. Hashem Yerachem on all of us!!!

That’s great news indeed. But can’t Israel also fund a Messiah?

One of the 613 mitzvos is to build a Mikdash for the Ribono shel Olam. No one argues with this.

The Mitzva is incumbent on our people at all times including today. It does not depend on Moshiach coming or on Jews loving one another (as some “Brooklyn Mom”s think).
It can not be built anywhere else only on the place the previous one stood.

Rashi and Tosefos quote a midrash (that is not codified as Halachah by any Possek) that the future Bais HaMikdosh will come from heaven.
Very nice, but this does not annul the Mitzva that the Jewish people have to build it anyway.

The Torah says clearly that we must bring Korbonos daily. How do you suppose we do this as long as the Mizbeach lies in ruins?

Since the time of Bar Kochva some 1900 years ago we have never been so tantalizingly close to be able to do this great Mitzva and to resume the Avodah.

Do we have to risk our lives to do this Mitzva? Ask your local Orthodox Rabbi.

One thing is for sure, every day that we are not building it, we are transgressing the Torah – maybe with a Hetter – but a transgression, nevertheless.

The idiots in the government who give even one NIS to these nutcases should be terminated from their jobs and provided professional assistance. With all the needs of the government for funding, to waste money on these moishichists is lunacy. Given them a few yellow flags and a one-way ticket to JFK so they can run around Eastern Parkway on Sunday mornings with their chevrah.

Fools! First you need a king over all of Klal Yisroel, which will be Moshiach and NOT some self appointed Bozo or phoney like Shabsai Tzvi; and Second Amalek must be wiped out in total; only then, and only then is there a mitzvah to build a Beis Hamikdash. And that is Codified Law.

Considering we daven three times a day asking for the Beis HaMikdash to be rebuilt, what’s the problem here? The Education Ministry is giving a few dollars to a group that has done research and teaching for decades now. I am sure they give way more money to other groups as well.
I don’t know the exact count off the top of my head, but a great many of the 613 mitzvos involve the Temple. One it is rebuilt, speedily in our days, we will need to have this knowlage. So having a group take tabs and keep us aware is a great thing indeed.
