With 98 percent of precincts reporting Tuesday night, Thompson was leading with 55 percent of the vote.

There is no major party challenger in the general election.

Thompson is a 48-year-old former federal prosecutor who is most well-known for representing the hotel maid at the center of the sex assault scandal involving former International Monetary Fund head Dominique Strauss-Kahn.

Hynes has come under fire recently for his handling of some cases within the insular Orthodox Jewish community in Brooklyn. He was accused of catering to powerful rabbis who did not want sex assault cases handled by secular authorities. Hynes denied any favoritism.

B”H, this sends a very clear message. Kol Hakovod to the citizens of Brooklyn for coming out in force and cleaning house in the office of the Brooklyn DA. Out with Joe, Vecchio and Henna!! It is time for some Law Abiding Government Officials to lead the city! YOUR crimes and mistakes did NOT go unnoticed. Although you thought you could do what you wanted without reproach obviously you were wrong!

I think the celebration is premature.
    a) Hynes might still win the General election in November. (As a Republican or Independent.)
    b) And if Hynes ultimately does lose, we might find ourselves wishing he was still District-Attorney. after a few years of Thompson…

And BTW, from a purely secular point-of-view, the CIRCUMSTANTIAL evidence against Weberman was overwhelming.
Anybody that thinks that Thompson would have handled that case differently, is fooling themselves.

I think that if Thompson would have been D.A. then Weberman might have gotten 250 years!
(Although, in truth, the sentencing was primarily up to the Judge.)

About time. I am a registered Republican so I couldn’t vote in the DA race, but I am delighted that has-been Hynes is out. True, he doesn’t show any favoritism….to Jews. He hates us all.

Question: the posters who said he will run as a Republican…is that actually happening, or just speculation?

We can all make the Brocho Boruch Shepatrany.

Anyone on the payroll of a so called “vaad” who seeks to protect Molesters, deserves to loose.

Now that the – – – – will hit the fan, all the “fun” is just about to begin… and the best is yet to come…

The DA’s office is the most corrupt in the country and as the new DA takes over the office, you can expect all of the old DA’s corruption to hit the fan and it’s guaranteed to stink to high heavens.

Don’t be surprised if as soon as Thompson takes office, the unearthed evidence which Thompson will break loose, will likely result in Hynes being indicted, along will all his current supporters who all supported him for the very same reason, namely because he promised to cover up for all of their – – – -.

For those who are still not sure what we are talking about?

It’s plain and simple. It primarily concerns “our leadership” cover-up for child Molesters, up until now.

At last, all children, victims of abuse and their supporting families, will no longer be prosecuted by Hynes and will be able to turn the tables on the Molesters and their enablers.

Hynes lost because his false accusations and convictions of Weberman and Leibovitz. With Leibovitz, Hynes eventually admitted he was wrong and the charges false.

This is by far the greatest news of yesterdays race! The message was loud and clear by our community.

You see, unfortunate you cannot always speak your mind against the “leaders” of our community because your kids will not have a school tomorrow, you wont have a shul to go to and your neighbors will turn on you, but thank god we have a vote where you can show your true colors and make your voice heard!

Let this be a BIG BIG wake up call to our “leaders” that we care for our children and when you’re wrong ( even though we cant voice it) we will not listen to you.

Some in our community made this as a personal attack on Nuchem Rosenberg and dragged him into it as a major point to vote for Hynes. it back fired, because Nuchem is not alone, he has thousands of followers that cannot publically say it for the above mentioned reasons and the vote showed it. So maybe its time to take a 2nd look on where the majaority of our people stand

Hey, some of you: did you know that there are some other issues other than these filthy child molesters out there? Did you know there are other factors in politics, not just Williamsburg-related ones?

I feel so much relief today knowing that our precious abused children can come forth with their stories and the pedophiles will at least be tried if not convicted. With Hynes in power, everything except a few cases were brushed under the carpet. These were heinous cases, but yet there are so many more he refused to explore due to community pressure.

The fact that Hynes lost has NOTHING to do with his so called “being soft on child abusers within the orthodox community”. We have to see which precinct had the most votes. There were many prosecutions from his office where people were sent to prison for many years becuase of corrupt detectives as it was reported in the media.
Hynes was in general a great friend for the Jewish community.
Its a shanda that our own fellow yidden are painting fellow yidden as the worst of criminals with conspiracy theories that we abuse children and rabbonim are covering.

These filthy lowlife activist dressed as orthodox Jews are a threat to the existence and future of torah observant Jews. They are poisoning our kids with their filthy mouth they care ZERO about kids.

Is Hynes running as GOPer or not? Hope he runs and loses again. Maybe our ‘gedolim’ will start leading from the front and not from behind.

I have my bones to pick about Hynes, but the gloating here is so misguided. First, Hynes did very well in charedi neighborhoods, so this wasn’t some major message against our leaders.

More importantly, we must look at who was chosen to replace him. Thompson is, at best, only mildly qualified for this big job. His key role in the Strauss-Kahn case, which globally vilified a man on a false claim, and his very underzealous prosecution of Crown Heights murderer Lemrick Nelson, tell me that his character may be a lot worse than the man he’ll replace.

Be careful what you wish for.

I voted in Boro Park yesterday, and so did 3 other members of my family. We voted for Quinn as a lark, as the Mayoral race did not motivate us. We voted with a silent majority against Hynes who over the past year has shown himself to be corrupt, a liar, and protecting molesters. The nail in the coffin was the B. Lebowitz molestation case, and how they framed the shmuck Kellner for it because of politics. Two wrongs for sure don’t make one right.

When we exited the voting booth we felt that Hynes can’t be defeated as he had the support of many rabbis. Placards picturing him with this and that Rebbe flooded the neighborhood. But seemingly many more people, like us, the silent majority are fed up with corruption both with the religious and the secular.

Justice prevailed. What a wonderful system in America vs. the old country!
