New York, NY – NYPD Says “Too Risky” To Chase Large Rogue Biker Gangs

(AP Photo/New York Police Department)New York, NY – On the heels of the Sunday incident where a marauding gang of rogue bikers chased and subsequently attacked a New York City motorist, NYPD officials say they are aware of the problem of rover biker gangs, but have ordered cops not to give chase after the large groups because the risk to pedestrians, and the riders, is too high.

The NEW YORK POST (http://bit.ly/15L6h3l) is reporting that the “pop-up” gang events, as law enforcement refers to them, are advertised via social media, with the intent of posting their heroics to websites like YouTube after the events.

NYPD officials say the rogue riders also often use unregistered bikes, which adds to the risk because, when chased by cops, the bikers simply take to the sidewalks to avoid capture, putting pedestrians and children in danger.

“The people who are doing this aren’t stopping when police try to pull them over,” said a source.

Another source said, “You go on YouTube, you could see dozens of [these rides] all along the West Side Highway, the Major Deegan, even one in Times Square.”

Cops say the stunts don’t usually result in the violence that took place Sunday, and that Sunday’s ride was supposed to go through Times Square, but was thwarted by checkpoints set up by the NYPD.

Cops say the riders belong to groups like Orion from Brooklyn, and Firstline Soldiers out of New Rochelle.

If you make the penalties very harsh for people that do get caught I think that can be a major deterrent.

    Dear NYC Police Department,

I can’t believe that this statement was authorized by the Commissioner or the Mayor.
To say that we will allow a group that is too large to handle to take over and break the law is unconscionable. Allowing any group of people to ignore the laws of society and be given a free pass is reason enough to call upon the Commissioner and the Mayor to resign immediately.

I have driven on a Sunday where they ride as a group and intimidate drivers in their pack mentality. They do dangerous stunts and wheelies on roads meant for the public. They speed, ignore traffic signals and threaten the public.
I am horrified and ashamed of NYC Bravest for taking this attitude.

if you watch the video, these animals had the entrance and exist blocked off on the west side highway, POLICE- you can do the same thing once they are on a highway, block them in they will have no where to go and start arresting them and confiscating the bikes

What would happen they say the same thing about terrorists – “it is just too risky for us to go after them”, or if the Fire Dept said the same thing about a 6 alarm fire – “its just too risky for us to do anything about” !!!
We should have all these “officials” removed from office immediately.

I actually saw a group of 10 atv’s and 20 motorcycles cut me off and go hru a red light by lee/Marcy. I called 911 and reported it. I didn’t think anything would be done since they were moving fast. About 3 minutes later a NYPD officer called me back to find out which direction they were heading- they were obviously hunting them down!!

so basically the police are saying it is too dangerous to go after these law breakers. The police would rather sit in a safe squad car and listen to the ball games and not risk their lives.

Thanks, NYPD, you have truly earned my (dis) respect…

These hard working bikers are enjoying the American way. How dare we equate the life of a foreign agent, to that of a corn eating, hot dog swallowing, beer drinking all American hero !!!!

Because it’s a risk to the Bikers?!!! Who cares what happens to them in the chase!
So basically they’re saying “Oh it’s too dangerous for them so we’re not doing anything about it”. I can’t believe I live here.

Well this is happening under the auspices of a clearly fascist Mayor; can’t wait ’till the new Marxist Mayor takes reigns of power in the Big Apple, then the inmates will truly be in charge of the asylum!

City authorities admitted that the SUV driver was in constant contact with 911 while the parkway chase was ongoing. If this is true, I am dumbstruck that the dispatcher didn’t keep the driver on the line with instructions as to where to exit the parkway while the NYPD cops were being positioned for action. Waiting on the local streets should have been a dozen police cars and motorcycle cops positioned to box-in the moronic bikers on the block that the SUV finally came to a stop. Apparently, there was plenty of time to arrange this surprise welcome for these 2-wheeled apes. Someone in the NYPD need to explain why this didn’t happen.

Why not put a helocopter in the sky immediatley. WIthin 5 minutes it will have all the bikers in sight and can direct police to block highway exits, take pictures of the bikes for later, drop flat tire strips, fire tear gas, etc. Once they are on a highway, they are trapped. Even on city streets, block them off. There are hundreds of cops in the Tiomes Sq area every day. Just mobilize them on the radio and give them authority to pull them off their bikes.
