Christie’s says “Untitled (No. 11)” will lead its post-war and contemporary art sale on Nov. 12.
The oil painting, created in 1957, is estimated to sell for between $25 million and $35 million.
The monumental work by the American abstract expressionist was purchased by the current owner at a Christie’s sale in 1992.
The painting, measuring 79 inches by 69 inches, is reminiscent of a radiating sunset.
Last May, Christie’s sold Rothko’s “Orange, Red, Yellow” for $86.8 million. It set a record for any contemporary artwork at auction.
