Rochester, NY - A town council in suburban Rochester is being sued for opening public meetings with Christian prayers.
The advocacy group for Separation of Church and State filed the lawsuit in federal court against the Greece Town Council and Town Supervisor John Auberger.
The group says it represents two residents claiming that only one non Christian has been invited to deliver the opening prayer since 2004.
The group sent a letter to the town board in July urging it to stop prayers before meetings or choose more inclusive prayers.
Auberger says any town resident can offer a prayer at the meetings. He says the board doesn't control the content of the prayers and doesn't put restrictions on them. [AP]
