HAARETZ (http://bit.ly/1aOEmV6) reports that Yael Elbag, who his a former Israeli national champion, began competing as a disabled athlete after a recent disease.
According to Elbag, she was unaware of the Culture and Sports Ministry directive banning competitive play during Yom Kippur, and flew to the Czech Republic to compete in a scheduled week-end tournament.
Elbag said that, upon arrival, she was informed of the ban, withdrew from the tournament, and did not compete.
Three weeks later she appeared before governing board’s disciplinary committee which, despite her testimony, found that she had willingly ignored the Culture and Sports Ministry’s directive.
She was banned from representing Israel for two years.
I don’t think it’s fair . She didn’t play & she regretted. Isn’t that what Yom Kippur is about. I think the board needs teshuva
Thus the L-rd has spoken.
If muslims did this to a muslim player we would be crying about how evil islam is and how we must bomb arabs. Its a good thing jews did it so we can justify it.
she did not play what is the issue
It seems she has enough trouble in her life. I think people ought not to add more to her burden.
Kol hakavod!
The rule is that one may not be part of a tournament that plays on yk.
She was.
Sorry she’s disabled, but it’s an equal playing field.
That’s life.
