Police are investigating the possibility that the mother of the child was a housekeeper at a Jewish home in the area, as previously reported on VIN News.
The full term baby boy, who was born alive, weighed approximately seven and a half pounds and was approximately 20 inches long at the time of his delivery. The case is being treated as a homicide and police are speculating that the baby’s body was dumped somewhere in the area of 55 North Myrtle Avenue in Spring Valley.
“The baby is believed to be of Spanish origin, but the skirt it was wrapped in leads us to believe that the mother may have been employed at a Jewish home,” Detective Peter Claussen of the Spring Valley Police Department told VIN News.
The size large black skirt may itself be a treasure trove of clues. According to Claussen, the high end skirt, bearing the label “Exclusive Misook”, retails for approximately $400 and is sold at only two stores in the area: S & W Ladies Wear in Monsey and another women’s clothing store in Kiryas Joel.
“We understand that in many Jewish homes they often provide their cleaning help with skirts to wear while they work,” explained Detective Claussen. “We are also aware that in many Jewish homes they don’t want pregnant workers working for them so if this woman was a housekeeper in a home like this she might have gone to great lengths to conceal that pregnancy and her employers may not have even been aware that she was pregnant.”
Police are asking for assistance from Spring Valley’s Jewish community.
“Did someone supply a cleaning lady with a skirt of that brand in that size?” asked Claussen. “Is that person still working for them? Was she pregnant? Did she not come back to work? If she did come back to work, did she ask for another skirt?”
Claussen acknowledged that the skirt itself does not prove that the mother of the child was employed as a domestic in a Jewish home and that it is equally plausible that the skirt could have been purchased at The Metzias Place, a local thrift store in the area which accepts many donations from the Jewish community. A pastel colored floral towel was also found in the bag with baby.
Anyone with any information is urged to contact the Spring Valley Police Department at 845-356-7400 or Crimestoppers at 1-866-313-8477.
Crimestoppers is offering a $2,500 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the newborn’s death.
A veteran detective with the Spring Valley Police Department, Claussen admitted that a case like this is unusual for the area.
“I have been here for 33 years and have only seen one other case similar to this one,” said Claussen.
How about it was leider one of our teenagers at risk and didn’t want anyone to know
It should be pretty simple to solve this most stores keep track of all their customers and their purchases in the POS system, they can even bring up the skirt and see exactly who bought it
Oy vey, who knows what else will come out of this story.
I buy clothing at metzias place all the time. I’ve seen lots of stuff with that label there. Half the customers are frum Jews, half are Hispanic. I’d guess it’s more likely she got it there.
the baby looks spanish
Hey number, when r’l a kid goes off the derech, does he then have Spanish DNA?
Who is going to give their domestic help a designer $400 dress to clean in? She either bought it used or stole it from her boss’s closet. If she can kill, what would stop her from stealing?
The mother of the baby is Hispanic… The mother works in a Jewish home….Think Arnold Schwarzenegger….
VeHamavin Yidom…
“The baby is believed to be of Spanish origin” From Spain? Or does the detective mean from Hispanic parents. There’s a huge difference. Babies of Spanish origin look no different that babies of French or Italian origin.
People don’t give their cleaning help such high end clothing to wear while working. Maybe she snagged it? Maybe she was a wealthier Hispanic woman. Maybe there was something more nefarious here. Who knows?
leider leider, the mother does not have to be hispanic , it can very well be only the father oy, but much easier and let us rely on the article –, hispanic mother.
maybe the father was Hispanic and the mother……..
I feel the same way.. As soon as I read the article I felt sick to my stomach.
When They Do A Complete Dna Testing The They Will Know Much More.
most of these comments are an embarassment and a Chillul Hashem.
Why not stop playing CLue and leave the work for the Police Dept.
When They Do A Complete Dna Testing The They Will Know Much More.
None said the baby was killed.
They said it died
if she had done her crime a few seconds before the baby was born, the government wouldn’t care, and obamacare would force her boss to pay for it…
This is a terrible, terrible story. However look at the facts:
Does it say they did a DNA test or just the infant “looked” Hispanic?
Many Yidden can have Sephardi DNA.
The clothing might have been bought at a resale shop.
The poor woman, whoever she was, was desperate and had no one she could turn to.
Oh! all of the sudden the Jew loving SVPD wants help from our community?? Maybe they should remember it next time before they arrest a Jewish mother on Rosh Hashono for asking a 14 Yr old to turn on a light for her.
