That’s according to the annual survey of hunger by the New York City Coalition Against Hunger.

Executive Director Joel Berg tells The New York Times (http://nyti.ms/17OUXHD ) the rates of “food insecurity” haven’t improved in the last three years even as the economy has.

The survey found the problem was greatest in the Bronx. Thirty-six percent of residents and 49 percent of children there didn’t have enough money for balanced meals from 2010 through 2012.

The survey found that the number of residents in Brooklyn and Manhattan without enough to eat also was on the rise.

The survey is set to be released Tuesday. It’s based on data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

    Curious …

Other studies find that a quarter to one third of New Yorkers are overweight or obese…

The hunger/food insecurity scam is another left wing phony agenda item. Firstly the liars in the “hunger” industry use these fake euphemisms for poverty such as “hunger” and “food insecurity”. It is as though there are millions of people who their only problem is food. Rent, Clothing, Medical and Dental care that does not count. They ran into a problem a few years ago when it was discovered that a lot of the “hungry” people in the Bronx were actually obese. So they had to somehow link “hunger” and “food insecurity” to “Obesity”. The truth is, the last thing the “Coalition against Hunger” wants to do, is end “hunger” because then executive Director Joel Berg and all the other highly paid non profit executive directors would be out of their cushy jobs. Yes there are poor people and poverty and they should be helped, but it is important to help them with real help, not fake help that only serves fake organizations and fake left wing agendas. Unfortunately we have a lot of fake organizations in the frum community as well. We delude ourselves into believing that a food package for Shabbos will help bail out a family that is in financial crisis. We need to get real and do real Tzedaka.

Of course. If an I phone 5s or x box is more important to them than food hat do you expect?????? But don’t worry uncle sam will take from my hard earned money ( that I don’t have enough for I phone) and give to the poor people. Messed up world. It should be a law that if you on government subsidies you shouldn’t be allowed to buy whatever you want if it’s not food or health related

Teach a man to fish, he can feed himself for life… Give him a fish and he’s knocking on your door for more food come dinner time. We need to create jobs and teach the skills necessary to fill them- not just give out freebies.

I find this very hard to believe. The biggest problem facing low-income households is obesity and you don’t become obese from not eating. In addition, there are any number of federal, state and local government programs that provide both heavily discounted or, even, free food to low income persons. This is just propaganda by an interested organization to make sure they continue to receive donations and grants.
