Borough Park, NY – Rabbi Chaim Shaul Taub, the Modzitzer Rebbe, was an honored guest on the first night of Chanukah at the Emunas Yisroel shul in Borough Park, at an event which included hadlakas neiros as well as a heartwarming presentation of Modzitzer niggunim.

Several hundred flocked to the shul to see the Rebbe in person and to enjoy the melodies sung by a choir which included 88 year old Rabbi Ben Zion Shenker, chazan at the Modzitzer Shul for more than 50 years, who was recently described by NPR as “the greatest living figure of chasidic music.” The Modzitzer Rebbes have been known for their inspiring musical compositions which are a centerpiece of the lives of Modzitzer chasidim.
“Everyone was really ecstatic about it,” Rabbi Shenker told VIN News, who estimated that the singing went on for close to an hour.
According to Rabbi Shenker, the Rebbe, who lives in Bnei Brak, was in New York as the guest of Rabbi Moshe Wolfson of Emunas Yisroel, with whom the Rebbe has a close connection.
“The Rebbe was the guest of honor at the Kolel Polin Reb Meir Baal Hanes dinner,” explained Rabbi Shenker. “He stayed one day longer to bentsh lecht by us and then he left to fly home right after hadlaka.”
