Rabbi Titelbaum was the Executive Director of the Torah Communications Network and is the founding father of Dial-A-Daf, Dial-A-Shiur, Shiur Yomi and Mishnah-On-The-Phone, and is credited for the many phone torah lines that have expended over the many years by other organizations, where you can hear shiurim on the phone.

He was a true torah giant, and has a big ‘zechus’ in getting many around the globe to learn torah by calling in to his torah lines.

Reb Titelbaum was well known to be outspoken on many Jewish issues, and was never shy to state his mind, he recently made headlines on the BIG EVENT concert, in which he criticized the activists who gathered the signatures, by calling them the Taliban's of our generation, and he was very upset the way it was handled.

In 2005 Rabbi Titelbaum wrote a very insightful article that caused debate in the community. below are some excerpts from it.

“The ‘Yetzer Hora’ of today is not the one of yesterday or the one our grandparents had to deal with. Today we have television, movies, CDs, DVD’s, Internet, videos, certain type cell phones, and music that are extremely attractive and contain more filth than ever before. They are everywhere and they can easily be brought into our homes without detection. Their influence and message is so powerful and seductive that they have penetrated even the best homes. We are dealing with a mighty foe whose magnetic power of attraction is difficult to resist. Saying “No” doesn’t always work. Unless we provide our children with a kosher alternative to it all, we are asking for trouble”

below is an interview Rabbi Titelbaum gave about his dial-a-daf program

I went to the Shivah I think whoever can, should go. I did not know him. I can tell you I felt the pain, the loss. It must be because he so much connected to the Jewish Nation that the he took with him part of us.
May Hashem bring out the best in all of us to be able to connect and care for each other like he cared for his fellow Jew.

What an Amazing person . I remeber Rabbi Tetelbaum chasing a goy that beat up a talmid in Torah temimah, and I never knew he was able to run fast.

Rabbi Teitelbaum dragged the giy to the front of 555 ocean pkwy and told the perp to apologize to the person he beat up for no reason.

The bum did not apologize and Rabbi Teitelbaum beat the living **** out of the goy!!

This was a man who never thought of himself but ALWAYS thought of others and cared for others and set the example himself.

Youw ould never see him doing something that he did not want others to do. Rabbi Teitelbaum literally practiced what he preached. This is how we should define what a true torah jew is supposed to be like, unlike what many people think of todays society where everything has to be politically correct.

Anon. 12:15 PM Thank you for the advice for long [and healthy] life.
But let’s not get distracted from the main point. Rabbi Eli Teitelbaum ZT”L was a great man, a Mezakeh ess Horab[on]im. He applied [real] Daas Torah with Common sense. And he wasn’t afraid to state his opinion
about all the “Get-Rich-Quick” schemes that were popular in our Community. He was always proven right!

By todays standards 68 is quite young. Ladies & Gentlemen, it cannot be overemphasized that it is imperative to have yourselves checked by a physcian every 3 months. You wouldn’t think of skipping and oil change for your beloved car, would you?. To those of you over 50 do not hesitiate to submit yourself to a colonoscopy every 3 years, walk briskly everyday till you break a sweat. Stop eating beef and double up on he chicken, turkey and fish. Beef is ok it all you do is cholent once a week. And don’t forget…lot of salads and cut out athe pizza unless is cheeeseless

I recall the early days in The Lubavitcher Yeshiva at Bedford & Dean. I remember him playing handball by the statue, he also played several musical instruments and was one of first frum guys to become a black belt karate. I remember him bringing several big guys to their knees. And this was all before he became Rabbi Eli Teitlebaum.

Rabbi Eli was a real DOer never backed down from anything he believed in. His love for Eretz Yisroel and each Yid was legendary. He took kids to Israel in 1967 right after the war.. people thought he was crazy… he said ” We have the kosel back- we have to take our children there” He was from the first to use modern technology for Torah via Telephone, computer & video.
He had real guts I remeber him protecting TT boys at the bustop from goyim on Holloween or from a mob of Arabs in a Tel Aviv Park.

He was running Camp Gan Yisroel when I was 13 years old. He made such an impression on me then, I still remember him 44 years later.

It is hard to believe that he was only 10 years older……

May he be a melitz Yosher for us all.

Along with so many others, I am shocked and saddened at the petirah of this ish ha’emes in word and in deed, whose clarity of vision and hard-hitting, sincere essays made so many issues so clear to us. One of my children was zocheh to have him as a Rebbi many years ago, another area in which Rabbi Teitelbaum zt”l (how it hurts to write those letters!) was superb.
May H” comfort the esteemed niftar’s family, and may we be zocheh to still see this Adar be turned into a month of total simchah by the coming of the geulah shelaimah b’mehairah.
