The JTA (http://bit.ly/1cbRxSz) reports that Carlebach announced her transformation Saturday night at the biennial convention of the Union for Reform Judaism or URJ. The URJ is the largest spirituality-oriented gathering of Jews in North America.

The daughter of Rabbi Carlebach said she witnessed to the intolerance her father suffered as someone who practiced outside of observant Jewish life, and that opposition from others in the Orthodox world when she tried to sing as a child overpowered her love for Jewish tradition.

Neshama is a singer who performs at venues worldwide.

What’s the point of singing about Judaism/kedusha etc. if you don’t believe in it. Reformers don’t believe in Torah. They believe it’s like an apple orchard. Pick what you want and what you don’t want forget about it!

Neshama will come back in the zchus of her father, who gave his life and Neshama for others.

Neshama, dont judge Judism by the Jews, judge it on it’s merits and reform Jews have no foundation. Most of all dont be judgmental, that was your fathers trait.

today the Frum world is Tumai, all they do is criticize other Jewish groups. 2000 years in Golus and all their self esteem comes from putting other people down.

The Taliban will blame her father’s electric guitars. The ban on guitar singing will ensue. But her message on why she felt her new community is more accepting, less judgmental and allows women to pursue a life of happiness and purpose will be ignored. Those evil Reform Jews.

Thank you # 5. You hit the nail on the head. So many of today’s so-called ” frum Yidden ” are condescending to anyone who does not think exactly as they do. It is people like # 1, 2, and 3 who drive people away.

Have any of you ever thought why missionaries are so successful at stealing Jewish Neshamas…..they approach people with love. Maybe it is fake and maybe it is an act, but it works. They don’t castigate, criticize, or judge.

Soon as our people realize this, we as a people will be better off and stronger. Let’s learn to show ALL of our fellow Jews that we care about them.

This same story is being played out in dozens upon dozens of Chasidishe homes, where the children were turned off for one reason or another. This has been going on since time immemorial and will go on to the end of time.

I remember hearing her years ago when I was in the Reform movement. I understand what she finds there because it is very user-friendly, non-judgmental (anything goes) and has enough Jewish culture to feel warm and fuzzy. I’ve been Shomer Shabbos for 15 years and I understand why she can’t stay in our community. She’s an anomaly, as was Reb Shlomo. Hopefully, Hashem will bring her home – He did for me.

As a frum guy who followed shlomo for many years and was present the last shabbos in ny before he died, I can tell you he did tsuvah. I can not reveal everything but he knew and I knew he was leaving this world shortly. He did tsuvah and realized his music was accepted in the chareidi world. His daughter is just in emotional pain like so many kids from situations. I wish her to find a real chareidi husband and together they will heal.

Hatzlacha Rabbah to Neshama may she find the truth ,whatever that may be, as that is what she says she is looking for. Everyone here should shut up and mind their own.

Heard this last week from the person himself: his shevah bruchos was in lakewood by reb aron, (the only one that was in lakewood with reb arons attendance) R’ shlomo carlebach came and played, reb aron stayed the whole time and benched shevah bruchos about 2am, this elderly gentleman told me about a book that came out recently that states that reb aron got up and left when R’ carlebach came in, when he confronted him with the facts (that it was his S.B. And reb aron stayed till the end) the author said well I assumed that he left, the point is, this intolerance is not something the previous generation followed

Many of the comments here illustrate perfectly why she’s left Orthodoxy and why so many other sensitive and intelligent people are also leaving us. The hate and intolerance, the pettiness, the small-mindedness that one sees in much of the frum oilam is becoming toxic.

Simply stated I really don’t know what all the fuss is about.

She is in show business. She is in the world of make believe.

For those of you who wish to see some great inspiration from this person I can only say you are delusional.

Much like most of what we encounter day in day, its all there to separate us from our money.

The only real truth is the Torah. Follow it as you see fit and stop the judging of those who do not follow it as you see fit.

We’re all Jews and God will deal with us as he sees fit.

Your opinions don’t mean very much.

I like calling a spade a spade. Reform is a religion of convenience. Start with Judaism, discard whatever cramps your stile, keep a few token pieces, and voila!, you are a very religiously observant person of a new faith you yourself just invented. No official rule books in this game, and you can continually move the goalposts whenever convenient. Neshama has always been Reform, as she has never accepted the jurisdiction of the Shulchan Oruch, and has openly ignored the rules pertaining to kol isha, negiah and tznius among others. As the heading of this article states, “Daughter Of Shlomo Carlebach Announces She Is A Reformed Jew”, this is only the official announcement about something everybody knew a long time ago, so why is everybody getting so hot under the collar about this?

I liked Shlomo very much. Met him first in the 60’s and enjoyed his soul music. I know he over-stepped the boundries of accepted frumkite, but still his music nad message was too good not to listen to.

His daughter, well, that is a different story. It was not a good marriage for Shlomo and Neshama must have suffered. Plus she doesn’t have the ‘pull’ that Shlomo had to attract frum listeners. So she thinks by declaring herself ‘reform’ will help her career? LOL

Neshama, if you’re readying this, I love you as the Jew and beautiful Neshama that you are. After 2000 years of galus, I don’t know how we can still find it in our hearts to hate.

If you ever find yourself in my neighborhood you would be welcome at my shabbos table. As an observant Jew, I apologize if any of my brethren ever behaved in an untoward manner. We love you for you, unapologetically. Hashem gives us the bechira to make our own choices, and we can love each other even if our life choices are not the same.

I daven that Hashem helps you find happiness, joy, torah, meaning and continued inspiration.

For those who think her decisions reflect on her father, remember that the Baal HaTanya’s son converted to xtianity.
