According to NBC News (http://nbcnews.to/1lwV8dJ) de Blasio announced his plans at a news conference on Monday, saying it’s inhumane to force horses to travel the busy NYC streets.

“We are going to quickly and aggressively move to make horse carriages no longer a part of the landscape in New York City,” de Blasio said. “They are not humane. … It’s over.”

Horse-drawn carriages have been a part of Central Park since it opened in 1857.

De Blasio said he intends to replace the carriages with antique-style electric cars so that tourists will still have transportation around the park.

De Blasio will be sworn in as the new mayor at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday.

I agree with the Mayor-Elect on the subject of horse drawn carriages, by Central Park. Those carriages should have been discontinued decades ago. It is inhumane to have the horses trot around continuously in the heat of the summer and the cold of the winter, in an effort to please the tourists and gain the tourist dollar. In addition to the horses being mistreated, there have been collisions between motor vehicles and the carriages, injuring and killing the horses, and injuring riders in the carriages, as well as motorists. Also, there is a health problem regarding the droppings from the horses, especially in the Summer.

What else are horse for? This gives purpose and nobility to horses. May as well ban dogs, cats, cows, etc. This is part of the so-called ‘humane’ campaign that includes outlawing shechita. Remember, Hitler ym”s loved dogs.

The irony is that: The drivers will lose their jobs; NY will loose a tourist attraction and draw for businesses in the area; The horses will go to the glue factory.

I think its inhumane to have a dog in NYC,all cooped up in a small city apartment . Even when taken outside these poor pets are subject to the crowds and the noise of the city………….
This new mayor is arrogant ( “It’s Over” ) and thinks that because he won in a landslide he has the mandate for his radical progressive agenda.
Let him get rid of the rats not the horses………… Oh that’s inhumane as well…..
    GOOD LUCK NYC!
