Brooklyn, NY – One day after a report surfaced in the NY Daily News that Menachem Stark’s business partner was considered a possible suspect in Friday’s gruesome murder, a lawyer for Williamsburg investor Israel Perlmutter has categorized the report as “completely inaccurate.”

“I don’t know who their source is but the NYPD has not publicly made any statement of who the suspects are, nor has any determination been made as of yet,” attorney from Clayman & Rosenberg LLP, Henry E. Mazurek told VIN News.
Mazurek expressed surprise at the notion that a police source would share information on an ongoing investigation with members of the media.
“I am a criminal defense lawyer and I know that homicide detectives are very careful about maintaining the highest level of discretion. Police aren’t in the business of leaking evidence to the press,” said Mazurek.
According to Mazurek, Perlmutter , who is still grieving the loss of his partner and close friend, has cooperated with police from the outset.
“He was the one who was able to work with the neighboring business to get the surveillance video,” said Mazurek, who added that his client was outraged by the implication that he is responsible for Stark’s death.
“No one from the New York Police Department has publicly claimed, or implied, that Mr. Perlmutter is a suspect in this terrible crime. Mr. Perlmutter is outraged at any insinuation that he had anything to do with this unthinkable violent act against a dear friend and partner.
Mr. Perlmutter is committed to assisting the police in finding and prosecuting the perpetrators of these awful acts.
We trust that the police detectives are working on developing real evidence in this case and not spreading hurtful and false rumors to the press.”
A spokesperson for the NYPD refused to comment on whether or not Perlmutter was a suspect in the Stark case, saying, “we can say nothing about a particular individual until they have been arrested.”

I have not seen any post or report that Mr Perlmutter is implicated in this murder. He is one of the kindest caring, giving people one can imagine. To even suspect for a moment that this man is anywhere near this case…is almost “laughable”. I wish you would not even report this, making people suspicious now …it’s almost unforgivable.

when something like this happens all are suspect that is just the way the investigation works. Who had` a motive, who can benefit and so on. It really is no reflection on Perlmutter at all.

maybe stark did not want to play ball with them. maybe they where shaking him down for protection money, to use their contractors, use their suppliers and he said no. It would not be the first time someone got killed because of that

Also – I don’t know if its me – but -When I read the NY Post headline – my feeling wasn’t that they were saying its ok to kill someone if you have a dispute with them – My initial reaction was – Oy, he must have stepped on a lot of toes-. “wanting a person dead” is a figure of speech- I understand it not being the most sensitive and politically correct way of saying it – but newspapers are out for sensationalism.
Would there have been this outcry if, instead of Stark, the name was Gambino, Corleone or Amadio etc. ?

He is a natural suspect, one of a half dozen people who have a motive to kill Menachem. It seems to have been a sloppy kidnap/shakedown gone bad. Rule out tenants, supers, people who he owed money to. They didn’t have anything to do with it. Who do you have left ? Business partners, business associates, business competitors. Those should be the focus, and their henchmen. It is obvious.

Did it ever dawn on anyone that the reason for Perlmutter’s lack of cooperation (or lack of cooperation in public) is “fear of his life” perhaps he was threatened by the murder incorperated to shut up or else….
I was thinking maybe they made a business partnership life insurance recently so it is just natural to investigate.
My question is why did the murderers have to take the body, they could of shot him.

Obviously, if the police have no leads, everyone associated with this poor man is a suspect. His friends, family and business associates all need to be looked at very carefully. This may seem harsh, but investigating a murder is a very serious business.
Many of the possible routes between Rutledge St. and Great Neck pass through the intersection of Northern Blvd and Little Neck Pkwy.
If you live / have a business there and have a surveillance camera, please check it for the white van and license number . Even a partial number could help crack this case. There is also a red light camera at that intersection .
